Death Claims A
Grand Old Lady-------
Ruth Caroline Woody was born
at Bedford, Indiana, September
29, 1849, and died at her home in
Exira, Iowa, March 14th, 1921.When a small child, her folks
came to Iowa and settled in Jasper
county. She was married at Harlan,
Iowa, to George W. Jenkins
July 16, 1870. They lived in Shelby
and Audubon counties for a
time, and in 1893 they moved to
Exira which, since, has been her
home.To this union seven children
were born, three of whom are
still living and were with their
mother during their last illness,--
Mrs. Minnie Jones, of Exira; John,
of Exira; and Mrs. Hattie Herrick
of Council Bluffs, Iowa. Four
brothers, two sisters, eleven grandchildren,
and one great grandchild
are also left to mourn. In the death of this grand old
lady, Exira suffers an irreparable
loss, as she has always been a consistent
church worker, always willing
to take an active part in the
things she deemed just and good,
and was ever a friend to those in
trouble. For several years she has
taken a great interest in the Children's
Home at Council Bluffs,
Iowa, and one of her dying wishes
was that the friends who had heretofore
so generously donated,
would remember the little ones at
Easter time.Funeral services were held at
the home yesterday (Wednesday)
afternoon, conducted by Rev. Lawton
of North Branch. Interment
was made in the Exira cemetery.Audubon County Journal (IA)
