OAKFIELD & BRAYTON

Monday evening the Oakfield Literary
Society was organized at the
Oakfield school house and the following
are the first officers of the organization:
M. F. Enenbach, president:
Anna Stender, vice president; Wendell
Smith, secretary; L. C. Heath and
Chas. Burton, marshals. The society
proposes meeting on Monday night of
each week. The question for debate
last Monday evening was "Resolved,
That the Philipinos are entitled to
their independence." The affirmative
side won. On account of the holiday
festivities the society will not meet
again until next Wednesday evening,
December 27th. The question for debate
on that evening is as follows:
"Resolved, That wealth is the cause
of more crime than poverty." The
speakers for the affirmative are John
Kelly, H. P. Buffon, Chas. Burton
and Frank Devine. The negative side
will be represented by Dave Beers,
Chas. Sykes and Percy Hallock. These
meetings will no doubt prove very
instructive and entertaining to those
who attend and as there is much interest
manifest there is no danger but
what the society will have a very successful
season.
