Orval Walton, 90, of Cedar Rapids, passed away peacefully on Saturday, June 12, 2021. He was born on Oct. 2, 1930, in Mystic, Iowa, the son of Frank and Bessie (Parr) Walton. He graduated from Mystic High School
in 1948.
From 1948 to 1951, he worked on the Milwaukee Railroad, and during that time walked every step of the way from the Mississippi River to Seattle, Wash., as he completed his job helping to expand the tracks to new cities and towns along the way. Afterward, he proudly served our country in the U.S. Army from 1951-53 where he became a demolitions expert and spent 19 months in Korea. He was a landscaper in Rockford, Ill., from 1953-54 and following that he worked at Lattner Mfg. Co. in Cedar Rapids, retiring after 39 1/2 years.
Orval married Jane Barrett from Charles City, Iowa, on March 30, 1963. They were members of Central Park Presbyterian Church. Orval liked collecting and working on old cars, helping neighbors and fixing things for other people. He also liked to travel.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Joy and Dale Walton; two sisters, Hazel Simatovich and Bernice James; his wife, Jane; and one grandson, Dustin Yancey.
Survivors include his sister, Jeanette Owens of Marshalltown; his three daughters, Sheryl (Kevin) White of Monticello, and Anita (Tim) Yancey and Fran (Jason) Wright, both of Cedar Rapids; 11 grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday, June 17, at the Chapel of Memories Stateroom at Cedar Memorial. Funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Friday, June 18, at the Cedar Memorial Chapel of Memories.
