H. C. BAKER, Superintendent County Poor Farm; P.O. Centerville; born Dec. 16, 1846, in Menard Co., Ill.; in 1849 came with his parents to Appanoose Co.; his father entered 320 acres of land, which is still owned by his mother; he owns 140 acres of land, valued at $30 per acre. Jan. 10, 1878, he was appointed to his present position; the Poor Farm consists of 180 acres. Married Catherine A. Wakefield in 1869; she was born in 1849, in Bartholomew Co., Ind., they have one child - Flora E., aged 8 years. Republican.
