Nancy Ann McShane was the third child of Francis McShane (1784-1845) and Margaret Warman McShane (1783-1864). Nancy was born on December 7, 1817 in Morgantown, Monongalia County, West Virginia. She died of consumption in Rossville, Allamakee County, Iowa on January 3, 1884.

Nancy was twenty-eight years old when she married Samuel Artist in Monongalia County, in 1845. They
started their life together on a farm valued at four hundred dollars, in the Eastern District of
Monongalia. Nancy and Samuel were the parents of three daughters, Margaret Ellen (1846-1914),
Elizabeth (1848-1922) and Mary Katherine (1851-1922) all born in Monongalia.

The Artist family would eventually migrate to Iowa, settling in Linton, Allamakee County, by the mid 1850’s. Samuel owned a one hundred sixty, acre farm valued in 1856 for one thousand, five hundred
dollars. He was forty-one years old when he died on February 14, 1862. Samuel is buried at the Maple Hill Cemetery, in Rossville, Allamakee County, Iowa. Nancy would be buried with Samuel Artist when she died in 1884.

Nancy remarried on August 17, 1865 in Rossville, Allamakee County, Iowa to the widower Thomas
Entwisle. Thomas was born in Lancashire, England on July 8, 1806. He married his first wife Elizabeth Hill Entwisle (1808-1857) in Derbyshire, England on April 28, 1833. Their first three sons, William Burgess (1833-1894), Caleb (1838-1918) and Laban Albert (1843-1924) were born in England. The family immigrated to Fall River, Bristol County, Massachusetts around 1844. The youngest son Asa (1846-1929) was born in Massachusetts. The family migrated west to Wisconsin then to Iowa finally settling in Linton, Allamakee County, Iowa on a farm by 1856. Elizabeth died in Volney, Allamakee County, Iowa on December 25, 1857. Elizabeth is buried at the Council Hill Cemetery. Thomas died in Volney, on February 1, 1886. Thomas would be buried with his first wife Elizabeth at the Council Hill Cemetery in Monona, Clayton County, Iowa.
