Colonel Leo George Clarke
Colonel Leo George Clarke was the youngest child of Andrew Burnette Clarke (1854-1922) and Eva
Katherine (Holmes) Clarke (1862-1894).He was born on December 19, 1892 in Waukon, Allamakee County, Iowa. He was sixty-six years old when he died on February 27, 1959 in Los Angles, California.
Colonel Clarke is buried in Section 7, at Arlington National Cemetery.
As a young man of eighteen, Leo enlisted in the United States Army on August 28, 1907. He would serve honorably during WWI, WWII and the Korean War before retiring as Colonel on December 31, 1952, in California.
During WWI, Second Lieutenant Leo George Clarke, would receive the Distinguished Service Cross for exceptional heroism and bravery on July 9, 1918. He received this award for rescuing a wounded soldier on the battlefield in Remonville, France on November 10, 1918.
Leo George Clarke married Charlotte Agnes Schroeder on October 20, 1915 in Manhattan, New York. She was born on November 27, 1895 in New Jersey.
Lieutenant Clarke was the head of the ROTC program
at the Pomona College when Charlotte died of a long disease on January 5, 1926.Charlotte and Leo were the parents of one son, Colonel Leo George Clarke, Jr. (1916-2010) of the United States Air Force.
He served in WWII, Korea and Vietnam. Colonel Leo George Clarke, Jr. is buried in Section 66, at
Arlington National Cemetery, with his wife Myrle (Pusser) Clarke.Leo George Clarke SR, remarried on June 9, 1927 in Los Angeles, California to Elizabeth Agee-Miller. She was born on August 27, 1903 in Nebraska. Elizabeth A.M. Clarke died on May 25, 1981 in Los Angeles, California. She is buried with her husband Leo at Arlington National Cemetery.
Elizabeth and Leo had one son, Emmy award winning actor, John “Jack” Clarke (1931-2019). His family honored his wishes to have his ashes were scattered near Arlington National Cemetery.
