A pretty home wedding was solemnized last Wednesday evening at the home of Mr. and Mrs. W.H. Cochrane, in south Corning, when their daughter, Miss Emily Etta and Lester H. Smith were married.
At the appointed hour, 5:30 p.m. the bridal party took their places in the parlor, to the strains of the wedding march, played by Mrs. Russell Wickersham, of Jasper township, and Rev. Jay Kirkendall performed the ceremony. There were about forty guests present. Pink carnations and ferns were used in the decorations. The bride and groom were accompanied by Miss Lenora Marquis, of Nodaway, as bridesmaid, and Orin Smith, brother of the groom, as best man.
The bride is a highly respected young lady, born just over the line in Taylor County, near Iveyville, and has many friends in this vicinity, where she has spent much of her time. She was attired in a white wool taffeta gown, trimmed in messaline silk and white beads, and carried bride's roses.
The groom is a son of Mr. and Mrs. Howes Smith, residing south of Corning. Like the lady of his choice, he was born in Taylor County. He has grown to manhood in this vicinity, and is an industrious young man, enjoying the respect of all who know him.
The maid of honor wore a cream mohair gown. After the ceremony, a two course supper was enjoyed. Mr. and Mrs. Smith departed Wednesday evening for Des Moines, returning home Friday, and they at once began housekeeping on the Smith farm about a mile south of Corning, the groom having the home all ready prepared. Many friends extend congraulations.
