Norman Bryant Kading, 88, of Casey, Iowa passed away August 22, 2012 at the Guthrie County Hospital from complications of Acute Myelogenous Leukemia. Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m. Monday, August 27 at St. Johns Lutheran Church in Casey. Visitation will be held from 2 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the Church where family will greet guest from 4 to 8 p.m. Burial will follow the services in the Oakwood Cemetery in Casey. Memorial contributions may be made to the Norman Kading Memorial Fund and may be sent in care of Johnson Family Funeral Home, PO Box 246, Stuart, Iowa 50250. Norman was born November 20, 1923, on the family farm, the sixth child of eight born to Otto and Anna Hain Kading. He lived his entire life on the same homestead that he was born. Norman attended Walnut Township #3 rural grade school and graduated from Casey High School with the class of 1941. After schooling, Norman went right to work farming. He was united in marriage to Gladys Margaret Gruber, on December 29, 1946, in Fontanelle and together they became the proud parents of four children, Steven, David, Randall and Joyce. She preceded Norman in passing on March 1, 1985. After their marriage, they made their home in the family homestead, crop farming, raising cattle, and hogs and also acted as the Dekalb-Phizer Seed Dealer in the area for 25 years. Norman was proud to be one of the 2011 Century Farms in the state of Iowa. On April 30, 1994, Norman was united in marriage to Gladys Ann Uhlman Farnsworth at the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Adair. He took great pride in caring for the preservation of Iowa farm land. He was a strong advocate of terracing, contouring, strip cropping, rotation, and no till planting throughout his farming career. Some of Norman's achievements included, Commissioner of Adair Soil and Water Conservation District, he served as director of Southern Iowa RC & D, served as Vice President and President of the Iowa SWCDC, served as a trustee of Walnut Township, member of the Adair county Cattleman's Association, Farm Bureau and Adair county Pork Producers and being a member of the Neely Kinyon Research Farm Planning Team. He was also very proud to be a founding board member of the 3 Mile Lake Development Board.
He is preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Gladys; one son, Randall Kading; and siblings, Edith Barney, Lucile Morrison, C. Boyd Kading, J. Richard Kading, K. Marie Smiley and Ruby Champlin.
Norman leaves behind to cherish his memory, his beloved wife of 18 years, Gladys Kading of Casey; his children, Dr. Steven (Sue) Kading of Greeley, Colorado, David (Pat) Kading of Casey, Iowa and Joyce (Steven) Kading Streeter of Wayland, Massachusetts; seven grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; one sister, Ruby Kading Chandler of Whittier, California and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends all of whom will miss him greatly.
