Evelyn Gertrude Erbes was born June 13, 1917, in Carl, Iowa, to Homer and Gertrude (Schrader) Williams. She passed away on August 1, 2012, at the Greenfield Manor in Greenfield, Iowa, at the age of 95.
Evelyn grew up in Greenfield and graduated from Greenfield High School in 1935.
On September 18, 1938, Evelyn was united in marriage to Carl H. Weller at the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Greenfield. To this union one child was born, Randall R. Weller. Carl passed away after 14 years of marriage.
On September 6, 1958, Evelyn was united in marriage to Albert W. Erbes at the Immanuel Lutheran Church and became stepmother to Marilyn, Max and Betty. Evelyn and Albert made their home in Greenfield along with Randy, Betty and Max.
Evelyn worked as a dental assistant -- a job she loved -- and as a clerk for Piper Variety and Anderson Variety stores where she enjoyed every minute of her work.
Faith and church were always very important to Evelyn. She was baptized, confirmed and a lifelong member of the Immanuel Lutheran Church. She taught vacation bible school and confirmation classes and was awarded a certificate for 25 years as a faithful Sunday school teacher.
Throughout the years she belonged to and held positions with LWML, Mother’s Club, Ladies Wednesday Club and she served on the Library Board.
Evelyn enjoyed her home, family, reading, cooking, cleaning and early morning walks. She was able to travel over the years and visited Nashville, Florida, Yellowstone, New Orleans, Kansas City, St. Louis, Arizona and took a trip on the Mississippi River.
Evelyn was preceded in death by her parents; husbands, Carl Weller and Albert Erbes; son, Randall Weller; brother, Dale H. Weber; sister, Alberta Foster; nephew, Jon Foster; and stepchildren, Marilyn Armour and Max Erbes.
She is survived by her sister, Juanita Wood; nephews and niece, Dale Wood (Karen), Dee Ann Langefeld (Richard) and Tim Foster (Kathy); niece-in-law, Kim Eddy (Ken); stepdaughter, Betty Currie (Ed); daughter- in-law, Helen Erbes; son-in-law, Bob Armour; grandchildren, David Sullivan, Cindy Vandemoer, Dan Erbes, Dick Erbes, Sara Garside and Jim Erbes; 14 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great-grandchild; sister-in-law, Violet Erbes; great-nieces and nephews; and many other relatives and friends.
Funeral Services: Monday, August 6, 2012 at 10:30 a.m. at the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Greenfield with burial in the Greenfield Cemetery. A luncheon will be held following services at the cemetery.
Open Visitation: Sunday, August 5th, from 2:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at the Steen Funeral Home in Greenfield.
Memorials: To be established in her name.
