Observed Golden and Silver Wedding Anniversaries in PickartFamily.
An event of very unusual interest occurred Sunday when the golden wedding anniversary of Mr. and Mrs. Richard Pickart was observed in conjunction with the silver wedding anniversary of their son and daughter-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Matt Pickart. To make the affair even more noteworthy, was the fact that both of the couples' attendants are yet living and able to be present. The elder Pickarts were married on Aug. 25, 1890 at St. Michael's church here by Father Francis. The Matt Pickarts were married on Aug. 25, 1915 by Father Drexler in the same church.
Mr. and Mrs. Richard Pickart have lived in the Norway community all their married life. For 40 years they have lived on their present place one-half mile north of here. They are the parents of six children, all of whom were here for the anniversary celebration. They are: Matt, Gertrude, Clements, Angeline, Maurine and Richard. Richard is the one who is unmarried. There are 16 grandchildren. About 90 relatives and friends gathered at their country home in honor of the occasion.
The other honored couple, Mr. and Mrs. Matt Pickart have lived at Sioux Falls, S. Dak. for the past 15 years. Attendants for the Richard Pickarts were Mrs. Elizabeth Arp and John Schulte; for the Matt Pickarts, Mrs. Ida Bange, Louis Erger, Mrs. Adam C. Schulte and C.J. Pickart.
On Monday evening the two couples were honored at a dance at Siepman's hall. Music was furnished by the WMT German Band. The two couples and their attendants were preceded by little Jackie and Linas Pickart and Elaid and Nancy Van Steenhouse clad in gold and white costumes for the grand march. After the party had reached the length of the hall, they were met by their children and grandchildren who joined in the march. A mock wedding followed with June Harrington and Marcella Bange wearing costumes of 50 years ago. June wore her grandmother's wedding gown. Everyone in the wedding bridal party joined other invited guests in the dance which followed.
