Vinton Business Man Marries
Nuptial Event at Cedar Rapids Thursday Evening of Interest to Vinton People.
Mr. Marshall Edgar Clark, who recently purchased an interest in the drug business with L. L. Palmer, was married last Thursday evening to Miss Lillian Estella Palmer, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. L. L. Palmer. The following account of the wedding is taken from the Cedar Rapids Gazette.
Miss Lillian Estelle Palmer and Marshall Edgar Clark were married Thursday evening, June 10, at the home of the bride’s parents, Mr. and Mrs. Lewis L. Palmer, 1535 B avenue. It was a pretty home wedding with relatives and a few intimate friends as the only guests.
The Rev. Dr. Conybeare of Central Park Presbyterian church performed the ceremony at 8:30 o’clock 3 in the simplest manner. The bride and groom were unattended and there was no music. The bride wore a gown of white messaline satin and carried a bouquet of Bride roses.
A wedding supper was served immediately after the congratulations, by college friends of the bride, the Misses Grace Welsh, Catherine Pantz and Bess Bowersox. Bowls of led roses decorated the dining room. The floral decorations throughout the house were very effective. Asparagus vines draped all the doorways and chandeliers; pink peonies were used in the living room and a background of asparagus arranged in a wide window indicated the place for the ceremony. White carnations in the reception hall and red roses in the dining room completed the decorations.
The guests were about thirty in number and Mr. and Mrs. Palmer were assisted in receiving them by their daughter. Miss May Palmer, the groom’s sister, and her husband, Mr. and Mrs. Rex Harbert, and the groom’s sister, Miss Elizabeth Clark. After supper the guests enjoyed a view of the presents, which included gifts of the usual list of silver, cut glass, china, etc., and notably a check from the groom’s father for one thousand dollars.
The bride is the elder daughter of Mr. and Mrs Palmer and came to Cedar Rapids with her parents from Des Moines, four years ago. For three of these years she was a student at Coe college and she is also an accomplished pianist.
Mr. Clark is the younger son of the Hon. Edgar E. Clark, member of the interstate commerce commission. He is a graduate of Coe college and of the State university. He is now established in the drug business at Vinton.
Mr. and Mrs. Clark left at midnight for the west. The bride’s traveling suit was of smoke grey cloth, with a grey hat. On their return from their wedding journey they will make their home in Vinton and begin housekeeping at once.
