Thomas Augustus Whittle
Thomas Augustus Whittle was born in Salmon Falls, N.H., April 20, 1820, and died at the home of his son, A.T. Whittle, March 27, 1899, aged 69 years, 11 months, and 7 days. In 1853 he was married to Mary Sweet, to whom were born four children, all of whom died with diphtheria. The wife died in 1863. In August 1864 Mr. Whittle again married Sarah McIntire,to whom were born three children, Willie A., Albert T., and Mary A., now Mrs. Geo Gilchrist. This wife and mother departed life February 16, 1897.
Father Whittle was a good man and since the death of his life companion he often expressed a desire to depart and be at rest. He has made his home since the death of his wife with his won Albert T., and all that kind hands and loving hearts could do for his comfort was done by his two sons and daughter. Mrs. Gilchrist could not be present at the last sad obsequies as her own child lay very sick at her home required her care, May God bless them and restore the little one to health.
The funeral took place at Prairie U.B. church in the presence of a large congregation of friends and neighbors. The services were conducted by the pastor, Rev. W.O. Smith.
