Mrs. Harry Starbird Met Death in Accident
Jennie M. Starbird
Late Sunday afternoon Mrs. Harry Starbird of Cedar Rapids, a former resident of Vinton, was killed in an automobile accident on the streets of Cedar Rapids. Mr. and Mrs. Starbird were in a Ford car and were hurrying home when the storm threatened. There was a number of autoists on the streets, all eager to get to cover before the storn broke. At a street intersection the Starbird car crashed into a machine driven by L.E. Davies, a Cedar Rapids druggist. Mr. Davies is the son in law of Mr. and Mrs. L.W. Schaefle of Vinton.
Mrs. Starbird was thrown from the Ford and struck her head against the curbing. Her skull was crushed and she died on the way to the hospital. Mr. Starbird and Mr. Davies were not injured. Mr. Davies claims he was driving about 15 miles an hour and had the right of way. It was dark on account of the approaching storm. Mr. Davies had his lights on.
The funeral will be held at a Cedar Rapids mortuary Wednesday after noon at 1:30 o'clock. Burial will be in the Shellsburg Cemetery. Mrs. Starbird is survived by her husband, one son and three daughters. Mrs. Walter Edwards of this city is a niece of the deceased.
