Former Resident Passes Away
Jacob Solberg
The following obituary of a former resident of this vicinity was sent to us by a relative of the deceased: Jacob Solberg was born March 19, 1871, near Norway, Benton county, Iowa, and passed away at the Iowa sanitarium, April 15, 1935. ….(line missing)….28 days…(line missing)…. Peter Solberg who came to this country from Norway Europe in 1902. Mr. Solberg with his mother, brother Carl and three sisters moved onto what is known as the Solberg farm in North Richland farm in North Richland township, story county.
On Feb. 29th, 1916, he was united in marriage to Miss Artie Tudor, a teacher in Story county schools. For eight years they made the homestead their home while the mother, brother and sisters moved to Roland, Ia.
In March 1924, the home was established in Fernald, Iowa. Mr. Solberg was an active member of the St. Paul’s church of Fernald and always a faithful servant in both church and public affairs. He leaves to mourn their loss, his wife, three brothers Carl of Roland, Peter of Norway, Ia., and John of Forest City, Ia., and four sisters, Julia Solberg, of Roland, Anna Solberg of Rock Rapids, Ia., Mrs. Thomas Olson, of Hermoss, S.D., Mrs. Chas. Nerison, of Norway, Ia. Also a number of nieces and nephews.
An infant daughter preceded him in death.
Funeral services were held Thursday, April 18th, at the home and St. Paul’s Lutheran church at Fernald. Interment was in the Lutheran cemetery near Fernald.
Those attending the funeral from the Norway vicinity were: Mr. and Mrs. C. E. Simmer, Mrs. Chas. Nerison, Mrs. Parker M Heck, Ernest and Victor Nerison, Mr. and Mrs. Axel Melberg, Milo Melberg and Mrs. Neil Thomas.
A wide circle of friends and neighbors join the wife and relatives in mourning the loss of this loved one, whose motto was “life is real, life is ernest and the grave is not the goal.”
