Pioneer Buried Last Sunday
David Reid McCune
D. R. McCune Spent Much of Life in This Vicinity.
David Reid McCune son of J. V. and Esther Alexander McCune pioneer residents of this community was born Jan, 4th, 1858 at Epworth Iowa. He spent his boyhood and early manhod on this farm of his parents near this city which is now known, as the Ralph Cox farm.
He passed away at his home in La Junta, Colorado on January 19th 1927 following an illness of the Influenza and complications.
He was married on Dec. 3rd. 1885, to Miss Ida Baird and they moved to La Junta, Colorado, about thirty years ago. Three children were born to them namely Mrs. Carlyle Drinkman of Milwaukee, Wls., Arthur and Vernon McCune of La Junta, Colo, who with two grandchildren survive him. The wife and mother preceed him in death a number of years ago.
He was one of a member of twelve children and surviving him are two sister and two brothers as follows Mrs. Caroline Dillon of this city, Mrs Erle Lasher of Epworth Iowa, R. K. McCune of Mason City, Iowa, and J. M. McCune of Austin Colorado., He also leaves.a number of other relatives including his nieces Mrs. A. E. Feddersen and Mrs. J. G. Nichols and nephew J. M. McCune of this city.
The body was brot to this city and funeral services were held at the Driscoll chapel on Sunday afternoon at 2 o'clock in charge of Rev. A. H. Anderson of the Congregational Church. Interment was made in Oak Hill cemetery.
Relatives from out of the city who were here for the funeral were the daughters and two sons who accompanied the body here, Messsrs. Frank Edwards and James Lasher of Epworth, Iowa, the latter two are nephews of the deceased.
