Eldon J. Lear
Eldon J. Lear, 85, died Sunday, Oct. 7, 2001 in Mercy Medical Center, Cedar Rapids, following an extended illness. Services: 1:30pm Tuesday, Grace Trinity Church. Burial: Oakwood Cemetery. Friends may call the Phillips Funeral Home, Vinton.
He was born Jan 3, 1936 in Shellsburg to James and Hazel (Dean) Lear. On Oct 16, 1938, he married Pearl Marie Thede in Waterloo. He practiced his trade as a carpenter for 35 years as a partner in Learn Brothers Construction. He later served as a night custodian at the Shellsburg School fo 7 1/2 years. A lifelong member of Grace Trinity Church, Eldon taught Sunday School and served as Sunday School superintendent, Church treasurer and board member. For 36 years he served on the Shellsburg Volunteer Fire Department.
In addition to his wife, Pearl, he is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Ann and Joel Kessler of Cedar Rapids, his son and daughter-in-law, Bruce and Jo Lear of Sioux City, and his grandchildren, Matthew Kessler, Sarah Deutuch and husband Mdatthew, Drew Kessler wife rachel, Megan and Ethan Lear.
In addition to his parents, he was proceded in death by two brothers, Harold and Paul Lear.
