Old Soldier Pass Away at His Home in Garrison
Garrison Independent: After an illness covering a period of about a year, Giles Lahue was called to eternity last Friday, Sept. 26, 1902. The dread disease consumption had gripped its victim and never gave up until death had marked its victory.
Mr. Lahue was not the strongest of men. He entered the union army and for three years rendered his services toward whipping the rebels, when had to get a discharge on account of sickness. From that time until his death he had never enjoyed the best of health but not until about one year ago did he take seriously sick. He was a carpenter by trade and followed that occupation for a livelihood.
Giles Lahue was born in Monroe county, Ohio, June 26, 1840; died Sept. 26, 1902, at his home in Garrison, Iowa, 62 years and 3 months old. He was married to Isabelle Milligan in 1860, to whom one daughter and four sons were born. The mother died Aug. 28, 1868. The father was again married in 1870 to Mrs. Margaret Rucker McBride. To this union one daughter and nine sons were born. Mr. Lahue with his second wife, moved to Benton county, Iowa in 1880, which place has since been his home. He was a member of the M. E. church, having united with that organization back in Ohio.
The funeral services were held in the M. E. church on Sunday, Sept. 28, at 10:300 a.m., conducted by Rev. W. H. Long. The burial took place in the Garrison cemetery. The family left mourn the loss of a husband and father have the sympathy of the whole community.

Joanna Brody LaHue
Joanna LaHue WAVERLY- Joanna LaHue, 96 Waverly , and formerly of Cedar Rapids, died Thursday morning, May 16, 1996. She was born July 27, 1899 in Urbana, the daughter of William and Mahala (Harrison) Brody. She attended country school, and following her education helped her parents on the farm. June 3, 1919, she married Wilbert "Dick" LaHue in Vinton. The couple made their home in Vinton for the next several years before moving to Cedar Rapids, where they lived and raised their family. Dick died in 1961 and she continued to live in their home until 1989, when she moved to Waverly to live with her daughter, Charlotte Peterson. She was a member of the First Church of thc Nazarene in Cedar Rapids. Beginning in 1916, the Brody family held a reunion each year in Urbana, an event that she attended many, many times, the last time being in 1994. Shc is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Charlotte and Gerald Peterson, Waverly; seven grandchildren, Judy Key, Janet Curtis, Lon Peterson, Mark Peterson, Gene Peterson, Donna Smith, Diane Shields; ten great-grandchildren; and by two great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband; one son, Forrest C. LaHue; four sisters; and five brothers. There will be no services or visitation. Burial will be Saturday, May 25, 1996 at the Cedar Memorial Cemetery , Cedar Rapids. The family suggests that memorials be directed to the First Church of The Nazarene, 3113 First Avenue Southwest 52405, Cedar Rapids. The Kaiser-Corson Funeral Home, Waverly, is in charge.
