Vinton News--Dr. lyle W. Koontz.
After months of suffering from heart disease and complications, Dr. Lyle W. Koontz, 60, Vinton physician since 1930, died at the Virginia Gay hospital for about a month.
Dr. Koontz had been in failing health for about a year...
He was born Jan 23, 1902, in Marshalltown, a son of J.C. and Stella Whealen Koontz. On June 27, 1929, he was married to Ruth Reeder. She died in 1957.
Dr. Koontz is survived by two sons--Dudley R. Koontz of Cedar Rapids and Dr. Whealen M. Koontz of Iowa City. The latter is presently serving in the Army at Ft. Bragg, N.C. Two grandchildren--Kathryn and Steven Koontz--also survive. Two brothers are dead.
Dr.Koontz graduated from the State university of Iowa College of Medicine in 1929. He was a member of the American Medical Association, the Iowa State Medical Society and Phi Rho Sigma, a professional medical fraternity. With the exception of the years from 1942 to 1945, when he served in the Army Medical Corps with the rank of captain, Dr. Koontz spent his entire professional life in Vinton.
A funeral service will be held at the Vinton Methodist church Wednesday at 2 pm with the Rev Robert P. Phillips in charge. Burial will be in Evergreen cemetery.
