Death of Benjamin Kendall at His home in Vinton, Sunday Night
Another of Vinton's pioneers yesterday passed to the great beyond, Benjamin Kendall, father-in-law of former Governor Buren R. Sherman died at his home in this city Sunday night, he was born in Berks county, Penn., in 1836, was married in Lancaster, Ohio to Harriet Little and to them six children were born, five of whom are still living. He came to Vinton in 1857 and has ever since resided here. He was a Sir Knight of Cyprus Commandery No. 37 Knights Templar of this place and will be buried tomorrow afternoon under ritualistic rites of the Commandery. For a long series of years he was a faithful and competent Warder of the commandery and also the sentinel of the Ancient Craft bodies of the order here and his presence was sufficient guaranty of the legitimacy of the session. Himself a man of irreproachable character, and absolutely correct personal habits. He was a very tower of strength upon the Masonic walls and whose loss is sincerely deplored by the order.
