Seattle, Wash.-John D.Happel 51, formerly of Vinton, died Saturday, Nov. 28, 1998 in Seattle after a sudden illness. He was born May 25,1947 in Vinton, the son of Ervin Happel and Dorothy Boeyink Happel. He attended Vinton Schools. After graduating in 1965, he served two years in the Marine Corps,stationed in Okinawa. He married Becky Lewis on January 13,1968 in Vinton. After farming briefly,he became a fertilizer and chemical salesman for Farm Service,during which time he obtained his pilot license. In 1975, he moved his family to Idaho, and eventually to Seattle. During this time he obtained his commercial pilots license, and was foreman for a construction business. Survivors include his ex-wife Becky;and his son Mike, Seattle, his father Ervin; and brother, Jim and wife Paula, all of Vinton. He was preceded in death by his mother, Dorothy. Memorial services will be 3:00p.m., Thursday, Dec. 3, at Trinity Lutheran Church, Vinton. Visitation will follow the service. Graveside services will be Dec. 7 in Seattle, with Military Rites.
