Robert Hamilton

Obituary.

Died, Sunday night, the 20th inst., at his home near Garrison, Robert Hami1ton, in the 56th year of his age.

Deceased was born in Ireland, immigrated to this country in his youth, resided in Illinois, until 18 years ago, when he came to Benton county and purchased the farm on which he afterwards lived until his death occurred. His wife and four children with a large circle of friends mourn his loss.

Mr. H. was an honest and upright man, a worthy citizen, and was highly esteemed for his integrity, by all his acquaintances. His death was very sudden. He with his family had attended religious worship in the Presbyterian church, at Garrison, Sabbath forenoon. After their return home, he ate his dinner in his apparently usual health, attended to his chores in the evening and at his accustomed time, retired to rest. A few minutes after he had lain down, his wife who lay by his side discovered that he was breathless and pulseless. Hastily arising and striking a light the solemn reality of his death was manifest. His family physician was immediately sent for, who after an examination of the case, expressed it as his judgment, that it was an instance of death by heart disease.

His mortal remains, were interred in the cemetery at Big Grove, and were followed to their resting place by the largest procession of persons ever seen, on a similar occasion in this community. Appropriate funeral services were held in the Presbyterian church near the cemetery, and conducted by Rev. J. S. Dickey, who preached from the words, “Be ye also ready for in such an hour as ye think not, the Son of Man cometh.” Math, 24 chap. 44 verse. Com.
