LIFE OF USEFUL SERVICE ENDS WITH PASSING OF IOWA PIONEER
Dennis Haines was born in Benton county, Ill., Oct. 28, 1851 and passed away at 8 o'clock on August 19, 1919.
Mr. Haines moved to Iowa when 12 years of age, where he grew to manhood and on January 17, 1882 was married to Emma Megalthon. All except one infant daughter, with the wife were at his bedside in his last illness.
Mr. Haines has not been strong since a young man, when an attack of measles left him a bronchial trouble which became chronic from which he suffered greatly.
He leaves to mourn his loss, his wife and 6 children, 12 grand children, two sisters and two brothers. One infant daughter preceeded the father to the better land.
The surviving children are Edgar, and John of this place, Mrs. Pearl Meeks of Clement, Minn., J. E. of Harvard, Neb., Mrs Mary Meeks of Cedar Rapids and Mrs. Grave Moore of Lester, Iowa.
The funeral services were held at the home at 11 o'clock Friday August 22 and were conducted by Rev. A. J. Mejerhoff of the Presbyterian church. Interment in the Blairstown cemetary.
Those who attend from a distance were Jos. Haines, Harvard, Neb., Mrs. Noah Meeks of Clement, Minn., Mr. and Mrs. Russell Meeks, of Cedar Rapids, Mr. and Mrs. Orrin Moore of Lester, Iowa.

CHARLIE HAINES, PIONEER RESIDENT DIES SUDDENLY
The residents of Blairstown were shocked upon learning Friday morning that some time during the night, Charlie Haines a pioneer resident had passed away at the home of his sister, Mrs. Mary Coder where he has made his home the past ten years. On Thursday, he was about town apparently in his usual health and planning to leave Friday morning to go to a ditching job. He went to his room at bed time, as usual. About 11 o'clock when his remains were found, he had apparently been dead for several hours. He must have passed away in his sleep as the bed clothes were not disarranged in any way that would indicate that he suffered.
Charles T. Haines was born near Blairstown, Iowa, December 14, 1856 and passed away March 24, 1921 at the age of 64 years, 3 months and 10 years || sic. His wife preceded him in death 26 years. After her death he filled the place of father and mother to his two motherless little daughters and all of the residents of that period will testify as to how well he accomplished that work. The little girls under his loving care grew up to beautiful womanhood, a credit to his training and to the community. Sarah is now Mrs. Merle Mayhew of Vinton, Ethel, Mrs. John Jacobi of Marengo, are left with 8 grand children, three sisters and one brother to mourn their loss. The funeral services were held at 2.30 o'clock in the Presbyterian church in charge of Dr. C. H. Purmort of Waterloo. Interment was made in Pleasant Hill cemetary. Some of the relatives and friends from a distance who attended were Mr. and Mrs. John Jacobi of Marengo, Mr. and Mrs. Merle Mayhew of Vinton, Chas. Coder, Mrs. Geo. Uthoff of Mt. Vernon, Mr. and Mrs. Randolph of Belle Plaine, Mr. and Mrs. John Jackson and family of Luzerne, Mr. and Mrs. Chris Larson of Atkins.

Emma Haines
Emma McLaughlin, daughter of W. and Caroline McLaughlin was born in the year 1861 in Indiana. She was united in marriage with Dennis Haines at Maregon on January 17, 1882. Her husband preceeded her in death on August 18, 1920.
She was mother of seven children, two of whom are dead: Bessie at age three and Mrs. Mary Meeks. Those who survive are Edward and John of Blairstown; Mrs. Pearl Meeks of Redwood Falls, Minn.; Joseph of Harvard, Neb. and Mrs. Grace Moore of Blairstown. There are 17 grandchildren. Burial at Pleasant Hill.

Henry Haines
Died - Henry Haines, of Capt. Sell';s Company, now at Camp Pope, died last week of the measles.

Hiram Haines
Hiram Haines, about 83 years of age and pioneer resident of Blairstown and vicinity, was found dead in bed Thursday morning at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Chris Larson, living on a farm just noth of the junction of No. 30 and 218. Death was pronounced due to heart trouble.
Mr. Haines had been a resident of Blairstown vicinity nearly all his life and for many years operated the farm west of Blairstown. After the death of his wife four years ago, he made his home with his two daughters, Mrs. Larson northeast of Blairstown and Mrs. Geo. Utoff of Mt. Vernon. His wife and one daughter preceeded him.
Funeral services Saturday at 3 at the Methodist Church in Blairstown. Burial at Pleasant Hill.

John Sidney Haines
Funeral Services were hold at 2 p.m. Monday for John S. Haines who died at his home in Blairstown on Saturday.
John Sidney Haines, son of Dennis and Emily Haines, was born November 6, 1882 on the farm west of Blairstown. He spent his entire lifetime in the community and followed the occupation of farming.
Surviving are his widow, two sisters: Mrs. Pearl Meeks of Redwood Falls, Minn. and Mrs. Oren Moore of Blairstown, one half brother, Edgar of Des Moines and one daughter, Mrs. Natt Kottre of St. Louis, Missouri. His former wife and one daughter preceeded him in death. Burial at Pleasant Hill.

Funeral Services Held at the Home on Tuesday, November 25th.
Blairstown has been called upon to mourn the loss of one of its native daughters, in the death of Mrs. John Haines, who passed away the Mineral Springs Hospital in Marengo after undergoing a critical operation. Mrs. Haines had been ill a number of times during the past two years and the operation was performed with the hope of prolonging her life. The operation had been successfully performed, but the patient did not have the strength to meet the crisis.
Obituary Sketch.
Minnie Sanderson, the daughter of Levi and Roett Sanderson, was born at Blairstown, Iowa, on July 5, 1881, and died at Marengo, Iowa, on November 22, 1924 at the age of 43 years, 4 months and 17 days. Her life was spent in the vicinity of her birthplace and here her friends are numbered by her acquaintances.
On March 9, 1904, at Marengo, Iowa, she was united in marriage to John Haines and for more than 20 years they shared lifes toils and problems, it joys and sorrows. Two children were born to them, Mrs. Amanda Garr of Belle Plaine, Iowa, and Grace at home. For two years or more she has been ill, being up and down during that time. An effort to effect a cure through an operations was not successful and she passed away Saturday at 3:00 o'clock. She leaves to mourn for her her husband, two daughters and one grandson, her mother, Mrs. Roett Sanderson and two sisters, Mrs. Amanda Heck of Belle Plaine and Mrs. T. S. Carrol of Atkins, Iowa. Her father and one sister preceded her in death.
The testimony of those who knew her is that Mrs. Haines was a good woman and no higher praise than that can be given anybody. She will be missed among her friends and doubly so in the family circle. The funeral services were held at the home on Tuesday, November 25th, conducted by the Rev. S. C. Bretnall of the Methodist Church in Blairstown, Iowa. Miss Lydia Groff and Mrs. George Edwards sang. The pall bearers were Al. Heck, John Shaul, Bert Cooperider, George Hartz, Jake Kinsenbaugh and Fred Sims who laid the body to rest in the Blairstown cemetery.
Relatives from away, Mrs. Charles Wood and Mr. and Mrs. Herbert Flower of Marshalltown, Mr. Noah Meeks of Clement, Minnesota, and Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Haines of Clay County, Nebraska, were present at the funeral. The numbers present at the funeral and the flowers were testimony to the esteem in which she was held.

Sadie Haines
Funeral services held Sunday for Mrs. Sadie Haines, 68, who died early last Friday. Sadie Code, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Coder of Blairstown, was born October 24, 1881 on a farm near Luzerne. She married was to John Haines. She was married to a Mr. Hannen prior to John Haines. Burial at Pleasant Hill.

Sarah Jane Haines
Mrs. Hiram Haines, pioneer Blairstown resident, died at her home in Blairstown, Wednesday. Sarah Jane Irving, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Irving was born in Iowa county near East Amana where she grew to womanhood. On August 17, 1889 she was united in marriage to Hiram Haines of Blairstown. Three daughters, two who survive: Mrs. Chris Larson of Watkins and Mrs. George Uthoff of Mt. Vernon. One daughter, Mrs. Stanley Skop, prceceeded her mother to death. Services at Methodist church in Blaistown. Burial at Pleasant Hill.
