Henry Groth
Mr. Henry Groth, of Norway, died at his residence, January 15th at two o'clock a.m., aged 72 years. He was born in Mecklenburg, Germany. In 1849 he immigrated to St. Louis, Mo.; and in 1861 he settled in Lenox township, Iowa county, Iowa, on a farm. On January 21st, 1859, be married Miss Mary Becker, a very industrious and practical German girl, who survives him and is stricken with great sorrow. They were never blessed with children. Several years ago they moved to Norway. Mr. Groth was a very modest christian gentleman and loved by all who knew him. He bas been ‘helpless for several years. His devoted and beloved wife gave him all the care love could bestow. Neighbors and friends also assisted all in their power. He was buried January 17th, near the Swedenburgean church, four miles south of Norway, and had a very large funeral, so that the spacious church building could not seat them all. The Rev. J. Kimm, of Fairfax, Iowa who was a personal friend of the deceased for many yeas, officiated in German and English and eulogized the departed brother in a deserving manner. So ended a very useful life on this earth.
