Adam F. Greaser Dies of Pneumonia

Shellsburg, April 2- Special: Following a month's illness from scarlet fever which later developed into pneumonia, Adam F. Greaser passed away in Des Moines Friday, and the remains were brought her Saturday for interment. Services were held at his parents home this morning, conducted by Rev. Eaves. Burial was in Oakwood cemetery.
The deceased was born in Clover Creek, Pa. Aug 22, 1883. He came to Shellsburg with his parents when 19 then engaged in farming in Kansas. When the call came for soildiers for the World War he disposed of the farm but the armistice was signed before he saw active service. At the time of his death he was employed by a vulcanizing factory in Des Moines.
He was a member of the Elks lodge in Cedar Rapids.

Aged Shellsburg Man Is Called By Death
John Greaser
The death of John Greaser, 77 occured Wednesday, April 22, at the State hospital at Independence, where he had been for the last two weeks with flu and complications.
John Greaser has been a resident of the Shellsburg community for a number of years, where he was engaged in farming. He is survived by his wife, who makes her home at Rockwell City and the following children; Mrs. Bertha Schultz of Pittsburg, Pa., Geo Greaser of Wisconsin, Mrs. Anna Shomler and Miss Ruth Greaser of Rockwell City, Mrs.
Ella Shomler of Melcher, Wilmer Greaser of Kansas City and Mrs. Ed King of this city. A nephew, L.H. Greaser also resides here.
Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon at Shellsburg, and burial was made in the Shellsburg cemetery.

Philip Greaser
Philip Greaser, a resident of Benton county since 1851, passed away at the home of his son, Harry Greaser, in Jackson township, Saturday morning, August 1, at the age of 91 years.
Funeral services were held at the U.B. church in this city conducted by Rev. C. H. Berry, assisted by Rev. S.S. Smick, of the Fairview U.B. church. Interment was made in the Mt.Pleasant cemetery.
Philip Greaser was born in Darmstadt, Germany in the village of Ellenbach, November 29, 1822, and died in Jackson Towship , Benton County, Iowa Saturday morning, August 1, 1914. He was the eldest child of a family of twelve. His father's name was George Greaser, his mother's maiden name was Agnes Kotzmoyer. He came to America with his father's family at the age of nine years. Lived in Maryland six months, then moved to Bedford county, Pennsylvania where he resided for twenty years. He married to Elizabeth Dilling, September 30, 1847. They moved to Benton County in 1851. Mr. and Mrs. Greaser were blessed with eight children, two died in infancy. The six living children are as follows: Mrs. Kate Donels and L. H. Greaser of Vinton, Iowa; George Greaser of Rock Rapids, Iowa; Mrs. Maria Hite of Bladen, Neb.; Mrs. Agnes Kaufman of Ripley, Oklahoma and Mrs. Emma Brollier of Ft. Collins, Colo.; all of whom were present at the funeral. His wife died in 1866 and in 1869 he was united in marriage to Mrs. Susan Miller, who preceded him in death in the year 1906. Since that time his oldest daughter, Mrs. Katie Donels, cared for him until two years ago it became necessary for her to have help in caring for him. Since then he has resided with his son, L.H. Greaser, in west Jackson township. Besides his six childre, the deceased leaves twenty-one grandchildren, three great grandchildren, one brother, John Greaser of Shellsburg, Iowa; and five sisters as follows: Mrs Katherine Fouse, Mrs Susan Burkett, Mrs. Anna Fouse, Mrs. Elizabeth Beaver, Mrs. Margaret Shultz, all living in Pennsylvania, and a host of old time friends and acquaintances to mourn in death.
Mr. Greaser was a man of strong character and undaunted courage, as a pioneer settler he contributed much to the development of Benton County both financial and spiritual way. He gave the right of way across his farm and $200.00 to the Cedar Rapids and St. Paul Railroad company now known as the Chicago, Rock Island and Pacific, to insure the first and only railroad built into Vinton. He was a charter member of the Mt. Pleasant United Brethren, and for over thirty years Mr. Greaser was the stay of the church both as spiritual and business adviser. He was a subscriber to the Religious Telescope, the official organ of the United Brethren church for more than fifty years. On account of his hearing, he has not attended church in recent years, but often expressed a desire to do and had not been thus afflicted, there would not have been a more regular attendant at the church services. He was a great reader until his eyesight failed about two years ago. The Bible was the most precious books to him and he read a portion of it daily. The last winter that he could see to read, he read the entire Bible, from beginning to end for the eight time. During the last two years, although sorely afflicted and always appreciated the kindness and care of his relatives and friends.
He united with the church at Mt. Pleasant in the year 1858 or 1959. Havng lived in earnest, consistant christian ever since.
The church at Mt. Pleasant having been abandoned, he moved his membership to the Stewart Memorial U.B.church of Vinton, from which the funeral service took place, the present pastor, Rev. C. H. Berry, officiating, assisted by Rev. S.S. Smick of the Fairfview U.B. Church. The portion of scripture used for the text can be found in Job. 16.22. A lesson was read from 90th Psalm.

Susan Chambers Miller Greaser
Mrs. Phillip Greaser passed away at her home in Vinton Thursday morning December 6th after an illness extending over a year.. Susan Chambers was born in Maryland in 1827 and in 1845 moved with her parents to Benton County which was has ever since been her home. She was married to Phillip Greaser October 11, 1869 and their home was in Canton Township until 1890 when they moved to Vinton. Mrs. Greaser was a member of the Methodist church. The funeral arrangements had not been made at this writing.

Susan Chambers Miller Greaser
Mrs. Philip Greaser who has been sick so long died December 6th in the morning. She was born in Alleghaney Co., Penn. July 4, 1827. She was married July 3, 1845 to Christopher Miller and they moved Ogle Co., Ill. in 1846 and from there to Benton County in 1852 where Mr. Miller died in 1864. To them were born six children, to of whom are living. Mr. L. L. Miller of Ayr, Neb., Mrs. S.S. Dickinson of Mt. Vernon, Iowa. The decedent was married to Philip Greaser October 17, 1869. Their later years have been spent in Vinton. She was one of the charter members of the Mount Pleasant United Brethren Church and was a woman of sound sense and moral worth exemplary and devout.
The funeral services was conducted at the home last Tuesday by Rev. Smick pastor of the United Brethren Church who words were very appropriate and consolatory. Burial was at Mt. Pleasant Cemetery

Wilmer F. Greaser dies in California
Wilmer F Greaser
Timesnews-Wilmer F. Greaser, 91 of San Bernadino, Calf. died Thursday evening at Fontana, Calif., following an apparent heat attack after an automobile accident.
He was born Oct. 17, 1984 in Pennsylvainia, a son of John C. and Nancy Fouse Greaser. He farmed in the Shellsburg area until 1920 and was later employed as a landscaper for the California Highway Department.
Surviving are two sisters, Mrs. Ruth Brown of Rockwell City and Mrs. Annie Shumler of Boscobel, Wis. He was preceded in death by two brothers and three sisters.
Funeral will be at 1:30 pm Tuesday at the Campbell Funeral Home in Vinton with burial in the Shellsburg Cemetery...
