Services Held Saturday for Bert England.. 67 Year Old Retired Railroad Man Spent Entire Life In Community
Bert England
Death came to Bert England, 67, lifetime resident of this community, at his home, 602, Eighth street, on Thursday, Oct. 21 at 2:45 a.m., following a lingering illness.
Bert England was born on Dec. 4, 1880 the son of Jonathan and Malinda England in Walnut Creek, Poweshiek county. On Jan. 16, 1906 he was married to Ethel Robertson at Chelsea. To this union four children were born. Following their marriage Mr. and Mrs. England settled on a farm south of Belle Plaine.
They moved into town about 37 years ago. Mr. England worked for several years as a gas maker at the gas plant and for two years at the brick yard. He worked for the C. & N.W. railroad for 27 years and eight months, retiring in November 1945 following an injury while working as a switchman. He was a member of the B. of R.T. At one time Mr. England was a policeman in Belle Plaine.
Besides his wife he is survived by three children, Mrs. Charles (Mildred) Stelcik, DeWitt England, both of Belle Plaine, and Mrs. Ben (Marie) Eggers of Keystone; four brothers, Will, Seaside, Ore.; Marion of Myrtle Creek, Oregon; Otho and George of Belle Plaine; two sisters, Mrs. Rean Petitt and Mrs. Luvena Miller, both of this city; seven grand children, namely Patsy Stelcik, Jimmy and Janis Lynn England of Belle Plaine and Barbara, Lanny and Cynthia Eggers of Keystone and Jack Rogers, who made his home with his grandparents.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one son, Leonard, four brothers, and one sister.
Funeral services were conducted Saturday afternoon, Oct. 23 at 2 o'clock from Peffers funeral home with the Rev. E.A. Donovan officiating. Thelma Shadle accompanied by Marie Christman sang "Abide With Me", and "For Me To Live is Jesus." Casket bearers were W.S. Henry, Fay Zimmerman, Leo E. Eddy, Rex Rusk, Ed Tehan and Joe Drahos. Interment was in Oak Hill cemetery.
Out of town relatives and friends attending the services were: Mr. and Mrs. W.W. Twombley of Newton; Mr. and Mrs. Luverne Grier of Guernsey; Fay McIlwain of Elma; Leo Allee of Clarence; Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd England and Miss Grayce Johnston of Chelsea.. Mr. and Mrs. Elza Miller, Mr. and Mrs. George Miller, Mrs. Viola Hite, Mr. Oliver Meyocks, Mr. and Mrs. Vincent Stelcik, Mr. and Mrs. Joe Stelcik, Mr. and Mrs. Chalres Pauek, Mrs. Emily Franks, all of Cedar Rapids.. Mrs. and Mrs. Leonard Pickering, Mrs. Roy Pickering, Mrs. Herman Smith, Mrs. Charles Johnson, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Hellwig and Mrs. and Mrs. Ronold England, all of Keystone.

Mrs. Ethel England died at Beverly Manor Nursing home, Belle Plaine, May 28, 1970 following a lingering illness.
Ethel Mae Robertson, daughter of Emma and John Robertson, was born June 18, 1886, in Arkansas. On January 16, 1906, she was married to Bert England in Tama county.
Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Charles Stelcik, Belle Plaine; two sons, DeWitt England, Princeton, Wis., and Calvin "Jack" Rogers, Belle Plaine; 13 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren. Her husband, a son, Leonard England, and a daughter, Mrs. Ben Eggers, Keystone, preceded her in death.
She was a member of the Methodist church and the Auxiliary of B. of R.T.
Services were held June 1, 1970, at 2 p.m. at Christ United Methodist chruch, the Rev. Scott Hall officiating.
Pallbearers were Michael Burmeister, Douglas England, Allan Eggers, David DeKlotz, Nathan England and Charles Petitt. Burial was in Oak Hill cemetery.
Relatives attended from Princeton, Wis., Lanark, Ill., Cedar Rapids, Keystone, Chelsea, Burlington, Chicago, Ill., Iowa City, and North English.

Genevieve I. England
Genevieve I. England, 80, of Ankeny, formerly of Shellsburg died Monday morning, Sept 9, 2002 in Mercy Hospital Medical Center, Des Moines, following an extended illness. Services: 10:30am Thursday, Paker's Grove Baptist Church, by the Rev. James Maxwell and the Rev. Michelle Scott. Burial: Oakwood Cemetery, Shellsburg. Friends may call at Phillips Funeral Home Chapel, Vinton.
She was born June 21, 1922 in Shellsburg to Thomas and Alta Pangborn Maxwell and graduated from the Shellsburg High School in 1940. On Nov 9, 1944, she married Floyd England at Parker's Grove Baptist Church near Shellsburg.
A devoted wife and mother, Genevieve was a lifelong member of Parker's Grove Baptist Church. Shellsburg Legion Auxiliary and White Lily Chapter OES No.427.
She is survived by her husband, Floyd of Ankeny, her son, Tom and wife Sue of Pleasnt Hill; two granddaughters, Lisa Conley, husband Kevin and great-granddaughter, Mya, all of Kansas City, MO., and Julia England of Overland Park, Kan.; her brother, James Maxwell and wife Helen of Fair Play, MO.; and her half brother, John Maxwell and wife Barbara of Robins.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Lawrence and Dale Maxwell.
