John Duval
John Duval was born August 25th 1823, in Province of Bavaria, Germany, died in Belle Plaine August 28th 1892. At the age of eight he came to America and settle in Oneida Co. New York. Oct. 11th 1846 he was married with Jane Sexton, who survives him. They moved to Jackson Co. Iowa, Sept 1857, to Marion, 1861 and to Belle Plaine in 1866, where he has since made his home. He bought grain and dealt in groceries and sewing machines puring [sic] all those years and established a large acquaintance. There were born to them five children four of whom survive to mourn the loss of a father: they are Frank, at Kansas City, Kansas, Frances Rlley, Topeka, Kas., Mrs. C. P. Hosmer and Nellie E. Duval, of this city, and all were present at the funeral, which was held at the house, Thursday Sept. 1st. Rev. R. Stapleton officiating. The remains were buried in Belle Plaine cemetery. The remembrance of Mr. Duval will be kept green in many an old settler's heart. He was a man of quiet but straight forward habits and his friendship was warm.
