Mrs. Louis Deklotz Succumbs to Stroke; Funeral is Tuesday

Newhall, July 24.-Funeral services for Mrs. Louis Deklotz, 72, who died at her home Saturday night after suffering a stroke Thursday, will be held here at 9:00 a.m. Tuesday from St. Paul's Catholic church. Father N. U. Keffeler will officiate.
Mrs. Deklotz was born Mar. 30, 1867, to Mr. and Mrs. Henry Davis on the former Davis homestead two miles east of Newhall. On May 22, 1888, she was married to Louis Deklotz at St. Michael's church in Norway. They celebrated their golden wedding anniversary last year. Until retiring to Newhall 10 years ago they farmed one mile west of here.
Surviving are her husband, six children, Mrs. Mabel Seemen, Newhall; Edward, Shellsburg; Ralph, Atkins; Gilbert, Newhall; Roy, Burlington, and Merle, at home; 11 grandchildren and four sisters, Mrs. Mary Weichman, Newhall; Mrs. Louise Smith, Sioux City; Mrs. Bertha Means, San Anselma, Cal., and Mrs. Elizabeth Lucas, Ontario, Cal.

Louis "Louie" Deklotz
Louis "Louie" John Deklotz, 77, died Wednesday evening, Nov 19, 1997 at his Cedar Rapids residence, following an extended illnes.
He was born July 16, 1920 on a farm near Van Horne, the son of Edward and Minie Hessenius Deklotz. His family later moved to Shellsburg, where he graduated from high school in 1937.
During World war II he served his nation in the Army's Quartermasters Corps as a corporal and was stationed overseas from May of 1943 to October 1945. He received an Honorable Discharge on November 2, 1945.
On April 24, 1943 he married Margaret Anne "Peg" Millburn at St Paulus Evangelical Church in San Francisco, Calif,. After his marriage and discharge from the service, he and his wife returned to the Shellsburg area where they farmed until their retirement. They have lived in Cedar Rapids since the early 90s.
...his dance band billed as "Louis Deklotz's Orchestra and His Toe Teasing Tempos."..He was a member of St. Stephen Lutheran Church in Atkins, the Shellsburg American Legion Post #166, and was a lifelong member of the V.F.W. Post #788 of Cedar Rapids.
He is survived by his wife, Peg, Cedar Rapids; his children, John Deklotz and wife, Judy, Shellsburg; Sharon Young and husband, Dennis, Somerset, KY; Gary Deklotz and wife, Rae, Cedar Rapids; Margie Lohrer and husband, Dennis, Shellsburg; and Linda Herzberger and husband, Jim, Atkins; 14 granchildren; two great-grandchildren; and two brothers, Robert Deklotz and wife, Faye, Arizona, and Kenneth Deklotz and wife, Barb, Delhi.
He was preceded in death by his parents and granddaughter, Stephanie Herzberger.
Funeral services will be held at 2pm, Saturday, Nov 22, at St. Stephen Lutheran Church in Atkins, with Rev. Frederick K. Jabs officiating. Interment will be held at Oakwood Cemetery in Shellsburg with Graveside Military Rites conducted by the V.F.W. post #788 of Cedar Rpaids.
Phillips Funeral Home in Vinton is in charge of arrangements.
