Harrison S. Conner
Harrison S. Conner was born in Duchess county, New York, May 28, 1829, and died in Amboy, Illinois, Feb. 14, 1910. The funeral services were held in the Methodist church in Amboy Wednesday, Feb. 16 and the body was brought to Vinton for interment. It was laid away Thursday morning at 10 o'clock in Evergreen cemetery. All the children were present at home at the time of the death, and who with the wife and mother, mourn the death of a loving husband and father.
Mr. Conner lived in Duchess county till he was 14 years old and then went to Luzerne county, Pennsylvania, near Scranton. As young as he was he entered the contracting business and furnished a railroad company at that point with timbers and ties.
He was married in 1850 to Miss Esther Gardner, of Factoryville, Penn. To this union were born six children Herbert G., Will E., Elmon D., Harry D., and Blanche, all of whom are living except Elmon D.
Mr. Conner, in coming west first settled in Whiteside county, Ill. He lived there for several years and then came to Benton county in 1865 and settled on a farm in Big Grove township. He farmed there for three or four years and then moved to Vinton till he moved to Minneapolis in 1879. For the last 20 years he has lived on a farm one mile from Amboy. For the last several years he has been a great sufferer from rheumatism from which he became paralyzed and helpless.
The remains were accompanied to Vinton by the son, Will E. Conner, and wife the mother and wife, and son, Herbert G.
