On November 11,1918 World War I was declared over. The residents of Polk Township decided to have a celebration. Part of this celebration was a parade through downtown Urbana. My Grandmother, Freda Williams Kime and her cousin Helen Williams Hurst, decided to ride their horses in the parade. To add flavor, they drug an outhouse with a scare crow dressed as a German soldier setting in it. Of course everyone got a chuckle out of this. Some of the younger kids took a wack at the out house as it went by. At the end of the parade route the out house had, had it and pretty much fell apart. It was quickly discovered that the outhouse had come from in back of one of the local bars. This caused some grumbling among the patrons. My Grandmother said "by dark it was no longer an issue".
