CHARLES WANDSCHNEIDER, a prominent and successful farmer and stock grower of Cedar township, Benton county, was born February 24, 1875, on the farm he now occupies. He received a common school education and remained at home until seventeen years of age, and his father dying at about this time, he began carrying on the farm on his own responsibility. He is a son of Frederick and Margarite (Delfs) Wandschneider. His father, who was born in Germany, came to Illinois when a young man and worked land in that state until the Civil war. He enlisted in the Thirteenth Illinois Cavalry, and took part in the Battle of Gettysburg and Pittsburg Landing. At the close of the war he removed to Benton county, Iowa, in 1866, and there purchased eighty acres of land; he was married in 1872, and lived on the place until his death, in 1892.

Charles Wandschneider is an up-to-date, hustling farmer, and besides general farming makes a specialty of high-grade cattle and hogs. In political views he is a Republican, and has held various public offices. He takes an active interest in local politics, and is a public-spirited citizen.

Mr. Wandschneider married, in April, 1901, Sophy, daughter of James Kahler, and they have two children, Grace, born January 26, 1902, and Kenneth Fred March 8, 1908. Mr. Wandschneider owns eighty acres of land in Cedar township, and also operates two hundred acres in the same township.
