HONORABLE EDWARD C. THOMPSON is a native of Benton county, born October 28, 1868. He is a son of James M. and Hannah (Merchant) Thompson, given mention at length elsewhere in this work.
Edward C. Thompson was reared in his native county, where he attended the public schools and Tilford Academy. He has followed farming and stock raising most of his life, and now owns one hundred and twenty acres of land in Big Grove township, and a half-section in Bruel county, South Dakota.
Mr. Thompson was one of the organizers of the Garrison Grain & Lumber Company, whose offices and elevators are located at Garrison; the company was organized and incorporated in 1909 as a stock company, having a large number of stockholders, all residents of Benton county, and a capital of twenty-five thousand dollars. They handle grain, lumber and live stock, have begun operations successfully, and have a promising future before them. Mr. Thompson has been a Republican all his life, and served in various local offices; in the fall of 1908 he was elected a representative from Benton county to the state legislature. He is a member of the Knights of Pythias and the Modern Woodmen of America. Mr. Thompson stands well in the community, and is well known all over the county. In business he is associated with some of the most enterprising and substantial men of affairs in the county, and he is well fitted to fill the position of responsibility and trust now held by him. He is actively interested in public affairs, and is a public-spirited citizen. He now makes his home at Vinton, Iowa.
