"Awake, Kimballton, Awake"

Kimballton lay stretch out--sprawling full length in the valley--asleep.
Suddenly a shiver ran through it; slowly it stretched its arms and legs, yawned and sat up, staring idly about. With a jerk it came to:
"What's that!"
Blinking and rubbing its eyes it took another look around.
Here an empty window--there a closed building stared it in the face and a queer quietness seemed to lie like a weight on its chest.
"Gosh, I must have overslept. I just lay down to take a little nap after the war; but this is too much. What'll the neighbors say!"
Getting up, Kimballton shook itself vigorously, squared its shoulders, and went to work.
"By heck, we'll show them yet!"

And so Kimballton awoke.

"--AND SO KIMBALLTON AWOKE"

Two business men met on the street.
"Say," said one, "I've been thinking---"
"So have I," said the other. "What are we going to do about it?"
"Let's think it over," said the first.v Proceeding on their respective ways, they met other business men.
"Say," each said, "I;ve been thinking---"
"So have we," said the others. "Let's do something."
And they did!

PLAN PARTY TO LAST ALL WEEK

They called a meeting and this is what they planned.

That they would give a party, the biggest, bloomingest jolliest party that
Kimballton every saw; a party put on by home folks for home folks; a real com-
munity festival to further friendship, good will, and understanding.
And because there is no time when good fellowship bubbles forth so spontane-
ously as at Xmas time, it was decided to make it an Xmas festival; a joyous and
wholesome Xmas celebration that will last not just a day or a part of a day, but
a whole week, to which the whole brimming countryside should be invited, every
man, woman, and child for many miles around.

Here is the plan in detail:

One the evening of the 15th of December the celebration opens with a community
party at the Opera House, where two plays will be given (one is by Booth Tark-
ington and so funny that you will hold your sides), contests and other varieties of
entertainment will be offered and the evening capped off with an hour's dancing,
modern and old-time music interchanging. It will be the jolliest and most enjoy-
able evening you have spent for a long time. And because it will soon be Xmas
time and there are so many, many children whose joy depends on us, who, com-
pared to these unfortunate ones, have been given so much, there will be an admis-
sion charge of 50&189; each for adults, with family tickets at $1.50,
which will admit any family and all children under sixteen years of age. Public Health Seals will
be used for tickets and in this way we will give ourselves and each other enjoyment
and will provide for some others who would not know Xmas cheer if we could
not bring it to them.

This party is for all, young and old, and you will be glad you came.
