Rival Lansing newspaper, North Iowa Journal, published the following week, on Wednesday, January 23, 1878 appears to dispute some of the tax information that was published in the Mirror:

"The Mirror last week published the names of some of the tax-payers in this township. It ought to go around town and hear some of the curses it gets for its blunders. And yet that paper insists that it is infallible."
