We are indebted to the courtesy of Dr.
Nachtwey, Collector of this Township for the following
list of names of property owners of this place who are
assessed for the largest sums and whose taxes amount to a
sum exceeding fifty dollars. The ist varies considerably from the assessment of last year, increased slightly in a few instances, but in many cases assessments having been reduced one-half. |

Rival Lansing newspaper, North Iowa
Journal, published the following week, on Wednesday,
January 23, 1878 appears to dispute some of the tax
information that was published in the Mirror: "The Mirror last week published the names of some of the tax-payers in this township. It ought to go around town and hear some of the curses it gets for its blunders. And yet that paper insists that it is infallible." |
