Geo. M. Dean, Esq., an old and well known soldier residing at Waukon, at considerable time and trouble, has compiled the following list of the soldier dead from Allamakee county.

We venture the assertion that no county in the State, according to population, can show a record that is of greater evidence of the patriotism and sacrifice of her noble sons whose bivouac is now with the honored dead on many a field of contest and where diseases incident to soldier life has cut them off.

It is a llist that should be preserved by every citizen in the county. We copy from the Standard of last week:

With measured step and muffled drum,
With reverence and with tears we come
To honor with our hearts and hands
Our Soldier dead in Southern Lands.

By fell disease, by shot and shell,
On wary march, in camp, they fell,
'Neath cane-brake or Palmetto's shade,
Their silent forms to rest were laid.

For us they died, let us revere.
And one and all drop silent tears;
Their dust is mingling with the sod;
Their Spirits dwell at last with God.
