Almost 1000 Years At Dinner, 1921
Elgin Echo, February 10, 1921: Over at Lansing recently, Capt. E.B. Bascom, observed his eighty-eighth birthday, by entertaining a company of Civil War veterans and old time residents of that city at a dinner at the Dudley House, and the combined ages of the twelve oldest guests totaled 998 years as follows:

- 21st Annual Fish Day, 1958
A thousand people lined the bank of the Mississippi River at Lansing Friday to watch commercial fishermen haul in a large catch of carp during the 21st annual Fish Day. Professional fish dresser, Tade Olloff of Lansing, dresses the fish that was handed out to the crowd.
Boat races and water skiing thrilled visitors to Lansing's Fish Day. Other entertainment included a horse show by the Upper Iowa Saddle Club, a band concert, foreworks, a dance and a Venetian Night river parade.
Head fish fryer George Kaufman, a conservation officer, cooked nearly 2,000 pounds of catfish. All of the Lansing Kiwanians and businessmen assisted throughout the day in the fish frying chore
