Ebenezer Cemetery Project
... an Eagle Scout Project dedicated to the
pioneers and their families who started Ebenezer Church
"SO THEY MAY NOT BE
FORGOTTEN
~~
Many old cemeteries need a lot of work
and care before they disappear forever. I planned my
project for Ebenezer because of its condition. So many
stones are broken and lost that I felt I could help
preserve information that is there. I planned my project to list the burials and would like to have mapped them but there were too many unknown stones and gaps. Some burials were grouped in clusters by family names on a large family headstone and then small name stones were used. There were also a few rows of stones in another area. Without an original plot map I found we couldnt map it. It is a very small cemetery so it is easy to walk all over it. The main concern is the missing stones. It has been mentioned that Ebenezer Cemetery was used as a sort of Potters Field by Zion UCC after the church at Ebenezer closed. People (farm hands mentioned specifically) that had no families were buried out there. The caskets were paid for by the county and buried from Zion. This information will take additional research. There are also reports of headstones piled in the back corner one year and then the next year they were gone. This also should be investigated. Devon Kimber |

We feel there are more
graves in Ebenezer cemetery that are unmarked. If anyone
has any suggestions or information about additional
graves we would like to know about them. We will update
the list with new information as it comes in.
Unfortunately, many stones are broken and there is no
information available. The list of burials (above) is
from Woodmansee with the corrections made that
are available now. Eventually we would like to have
everyone remembered. If you would like a copy of the
picture of the church (larger than the above photo) you
may contact me. ~~~ *12/08/07 - "It was exciting to find that my GG-Grandmother Dorethea Wehlitz Dee is buried [in Ebenezer], and her daughter Julianna Dee's husband, Adolph Hagemeier. Julianna was Adolph Hagemeier's second wife. Doretha Wehlitz Dee came to America with Theodore Dee & family and Julianna from Germany" ... Janet Koozer |
