records indicate he is also buried in Gethsemane.
William's 2nd wife, Mae L. (Cassidy) Becking is also

Brophy, Mary Jane (1858-1928 Mar 29)

is not correct. Mary (Kerrigan) Brophy

cemetery, Viroqua, Wi. Her parents & other family
members are buried in the family plot there, where there
is a very large DEVLIN monumet surrounded by the

by me if she also has a gravestone in Gethsemane
cemetery, but a detailed obituary for her in the Allamakee
Journal states her wishes to be buried in
Gethsemane, arrival of her body in Lansing &
funeral/burial description. (S.F.) See posted obituary.

(11/23/1880-10/1/1883) & Robert (1895-1895), no
sources are given for the dates so they should be
verified. The dates for Robert given in
Woodmansee are those of John A. whose obit was
printed in a Lansing newspaper. (R.O.)

-he is buried in Lycurgus cemetery.

The entries are for the same man. Albert Gaulthier served
in the Civil War. He was married to Elizabeth, who is not
entered with surname Gaulthier, rather she is shown as
Elizabeth Zirbes, which is not correct. See also Zirbes
notes below. (D.D.)
Gibbs, Doris Ann nee Burger (1914 Mar

-Mary Hanley (Mrs. James Hanley ). Source: 1895 Iowa
State Census. (P.M.)
Healy, Agnes (1877 Oct 15-1878 Jul 30)
-Death notice in the Iowa North Journal
indicates she died in Lansing, IA; gravestone is in Paint
Rock cemetery. In the Woodmansee book she is listed in
both Gethsemane and Paint Rock cemeteries. There is a
slight differance in dates, the Paint Rock record gives
birth date as Nov. 5, 1877, but I believe they are the
same person. (R.O.)
Healy, Thomas F. (1835 Dec 14-1873 May
31)
-Healy also has an entry in the Old Oak Hill burial list,
where the remarks indicate possible reburial. I believe
the remarks are correct in that he was reinterred to the
Gethsemane cemetery from Old Oak Hill. Extracted from a
Decoration Day news article: "The phalanx [ie:
procession] then repaired to the old cemetery, where the
graves of Thomas McGarrity, Jacob Beisel, Geo. Nye and Thomas
Healy were each in turn decorated. There are two
or three other soldiers buried in the old cemetery but
their graves could not be identifed.~North Iowa
Journal, Wednesday, May 30, 1877; pg 3. His memorial
on FindaGrave includes additional
information about his burials. (S.F.)
Henssler, Joseph (1838 Feb 25 - 1874 Dec
25)
The remains of Jos. Hennsler, buried in the old Catholic
cemetery twenty-three years ago, are being removed to
LaCrosse, to-day, where the family now resides. ~Allamakee

Keller, Josephine (1868 Jan 16-1943 Oct
23)
-The entire entry is incorrect, the dates
are for Frank Keller. The other entry for Josephine
Keller is correct. (R.O.)
Kerndt, Gustave William
(1851-1921 Oct 22)
-Correct burial place is Oak Hill cemetery,
where he has a gravestone; also, obit states: "Burial
was in the family lot in Oak Hill cemetery" (R.O.)
Lucey, Francis B. 1923-1975 Nov
08
Lucey, Rose M. 1903-1971 Feb 10
-Francis was born March 9,1923. Rose's correct dates are
June 2, 1903 - February 7, 1971
-source: Prayer cards, Dickinson Funeral Homes - I think
this funeral home was in LaCrosse, Wisconsin - because
that is where some of the Lucey's moved to when they left
the Rossville/Waukon, Iowa area. The Lucey's were friends
of my father. The prayer cards were in misc. papers of my
saved by my mother. (C.E.)
Manderscheid, William P. (1849-1966)
-William P. 'Bill' Manderscheid was born 1949 (not 1849).
He died July 1, 1966. (contributed by John Riley)
Manderscheid, William J.
(1909-1920)
-This is William Joseph Manderscheid, July 24,
1909-August 17, 1970. The death year in 'Woodmansee' is
an error. His wife, Norene Batteen
Manderscheid, 1916-2002, is also buried in Gethsemane.
(R.O.)
McGarrity, Thomas (1815-1871)
He was reinterred in the Gethsemane
cemetery after first being buried in Old Oak Hill.
Extracted from a Decoration Day news article: "The
phalanx [ie: procession] then repaired to the old
cemetery, where the graves of Thomas McGarrity,
Jacob Beisel, Geo. Nye and Thomas Healy were each in turn
decorated. There are two or three other soldiers buried
in the old cemetery but their graves could not be
identifed." (North Iowa Journal, Wednesday,
May 30, 1877; pg 3). McGarrity has a gravestone in
Gethsemane. (S.F.)
McGarry, Bernard May 15,
1814-December 24, 1901
McGarry, Elizabeth A. ' Lizzie' June 15,

-Neither appear on the Woodmansee burials for
Gethsemane cemetery, but are buried in Gethsemane. (P.M)
Muller, Ernest (1803-1877)
-Woodmansee also shows his burial in Oak Hill,
Lansing. Researchers should research & verify the
correct burial site, but it is most likely that Oak Hill
is correct, although his wife Theresa is in Gethsemane. (R.O.)
Murphy, Augustine (1879-1945)
-Woodmansee has the DOD wrong - he died 1943
Oct 08. Obits from the Waukon Democrat and
the Waukon Republican-Standard support this date. I also
have church records from Lansing that show 1943 as date
of death and his gravestone has 1943 as date of death. (R.O.)
Nachtwey, Theodore
1899 Jan 24 - 1909 Dec 20
-Dates from his gravestone,
are Oct 25, 1833 - Dec 19, 1909. These dates are also
supported by his obituary. (P.M.)

02)
-ACDR records his death in 1886. (R.O.)
O'Rourke, Maggie (1871-1882 Feb 07)
-I believe she is actually buried in Paint Rock cemetery,
but researchers should verify. (R.O.)
Poehler - August, Frederick, Fritz, Gertrude,
Gustave, Joseph, Mary, Mary, Rosa & William

Rellinan, Mayme 1884 -
1954 Jan 23
Rellinan, Michael 1848
Sep 20 - 1909 Dec 03
-The above are listed in Woodmansee as
buried in the Gethsemane cemetery but they are not listed
in the book index. The spelling of the last names should
be Rellihan. (J.W.)
Serene, ? (1862 Apr 27-1934 Dec 31)
Serene, John H. (1857 Aug 02-1900 Oct
19)
-Name for unknown is Ann Jane (Hoye) Serene,
wife of John H. Her gravestone is engraved
"Mother". Correct DOD for John Serene is
October 19, 1909. His gravestone is
engraved "Father" (R.O.)
Silverburg, Annette Brophy (1892-19--)
-Correct spelling of surname is Silberberg.
She was d/o John & Mary Brophy and died 01/09/1990.
Husband was Walter Silberberg. (S.F.)
Silverburg, Frances Brophy (1884-1957)
Silverburg, Mary (1854-1928)
-The surname for both women is Brophy.
Mary (Kerrigan) Brophy 09/05/1854-03/29/1928, w/o John
(d. 05/30/1925). Frances 'Fanny' Brophy (obit), d/o John & Mary, was a nurse.
Her dates are 02/22/1884-01/15/1957. She never married.
Silberberg was the married name of Frances' sister
Annette Brophy, who is buried with her parents &
sister in the Brophy lot. (R.O.)
Tetzlaff, Carolina
? -1987 Aug 31
-Although Woodmansee cites a Burial Transit
Permit Record as his source that Carolina is buried in
Gethsemane cemetery (pg 120), she is actually buried in
Oak Hill. This is in error--we were at her funeral and
burial. Her maiden name was Linchen. (contributor: Helen
and Norb Wurtzel)
Thoma, Mary (1868-1958 Sep 24)
Thoma, Mathias (1832 Jun 26-1905 Jul 15)
-correct surname is Thome. Mathias was
h/o Catherine Geider Thome (1825 Jul 18-1908 Mar 09), who
is not included in Woodmansee. Mathias & Catherine
share a stone in Gethsemane. Mary Thome has a separate
stone in Gethsemane. (R.O.)
Troendle, Gary Lee 1955-1977

1977. Source: Funeral Prayer Card. (C.E.)
Troendle, Irvin Leo 1929 Sep 12 - 1979
Nov 5
-Woodmansee death date conflicts w/the year inscribed on
his gravestone (1972) and in the
Allamakee co. Death Record: d. Sept. 5, 1972
in Waukon hosp., Burke-Thornburg funeral home. (R.O.)
Ulmer, Louis 1825-1906
-his burial was omitted by Woodmansee, he is buried in
Gethsemane with his wife, Annie, and son Louis JR. He has
no marker. (S.F.)
Wagner, Martha (1892-1965)
Bowes, Martha (1892 Sep 04-1965 Nov 16)
-These entries are the same woman. Martha was married to
Jerry Bowes at the time of her death. Burial is in the
Wagner lot, Gethsemane. Unknown if her maiden name was
Wagner, or if that was a first marriage. (R.O.)
Wagner, Rosemary Catherine (1922 May
14-1964 Apr 10)
-Rosemary is buried in the Wexford cemetery.
Her obit in the Allamakee Journal, Lansing I.C.
records & Allamakee Death Records correctly give
place of burial as Wexford. Rosemary's funeral services
were at the Lansing I.C. church but her burial was not in
Gethsemane cemetery. Rosemary's father and mother are
also buried in Wexford. (R.O.)
Weipert, John
Weipert, Faranziska
-The July 1901 edtion of the Lansing Mirror
mentions the Weipert's were reburied from the old Catholic cemetery to the new
one (Gethsemane), John Weipert 1897 and Faranziska
Weipert 1875. (P.M.)

1986 Oct 15)
-Woodmansee death date conflicts w/the death date in the
Allamakee co. Death Record: Oct 15, 1984
in Waukon hosp., funeral by Burke-Thornburg. (R.O.)
Zirbes, Albert (1844-1928)
Zirbes, Elizabeth (1854-1940)
Correct names are Albert & Elizabeth Gaulthier.
The dates are correct. The error likely occurred because
their daughter Maude was married to Jake Zirbes. Albert
is correctly listed twice in 'Woodmansee'. Elizabeth is
not in 'Woodmansee'. (D.D.)
Zoll, Margaret E. (1860 Oct 19-1898 Mar
07)
-Death records at Allamakee County Recorder's office have
