Herman Frederick Stock was born on March 20, 1832, in Rafeld, Hohenhausen, Lippe, Germany. He was the son of Gotleib Stock. Herman and his family arrived in New York on May 6, 1853, and may have travelled to Wisconsin (according to the destination listed on the ship’s passenger list), before joining other family members in Allamakee county.

Herman married Caroline Louisa Ottomeier in May 1859 in Waukon, Iowa. She was born in July 1839 in Hohenhausen, Lippe Detmold, Germany. First they lived east of Waukon and settled later in Ludlow.

Herman usually went by his middle name Frederick in records including census, his obituary, and on his gravestone.

Herman died on February 8th, 1912, and Caroline died on 25 January 25th, 1903, both in Waukon. They are buried in the Zalmona cemetery, Ludlow twp.

They had 14 children, all born in Waukon. 13 of the children lived in Allamakee county and one (William) lived in Nebraska.

1. John Stock was born on August 2nd, 1859. He married Anna Fredericka Dravis, who was born on August 5th, 1865. They had one child, Lydia. John died on July 26th, 1926 and Anna died on 29 Jan 1948.

2. Louisa Eliza Stock was born in November of 1861. She married Frederich H. Krueger who was born on July 10th, 1857. They had two children, William and Sarah. Louisa died on November 26th, 1923 and Frederich died on June 10th, 1927.

3. Wilhelmina Henriette Stock was born on September 4th, 1863. She married Frederick Grotegut, who was born on April 9th, 1859. They had 9 children, Edward, Martha, John, Emma, Simon, Mary, Lydia, Albert and Mabel. Wilhelmina died on December 24th, 1961. Frederick died on June 5th, 1930.

4. Mathilda Stock was born on May 24th, 1865. She married August Hermeier who was born on September 8th, 1893. They had 5 children, Edward, Anna, Fred, Elmer, and Esther. Mathilda died on December 20th, 1952 and August died on June 24th, 1909.

5. Sophia Stock was born on October 27th, 1868. She married Frederick William Kugel who was born in 1861. They had 8 children, Mary, Carl, John, Edward, Frederick, Martha, Elmer, and Robert. Sophia died on October 22nd, 1925 and Frederick died on September 1st, 1936.

6. Caroline “Lena” Stock was born on November 27th, 1868. She married William Frederick Dravis who was born on July 21st, 1862. They had 2 children, Clara and Martha. Lena died on September 19th, 1942 and William died on July 18th, 1947.

7. Mary Stock was born on February 28th, 1871. She married Charles Herman Pausch, who was born April 3rd, 1865. They had 2 children, Carl and Cora. Mary died on February 2nd, 1960 and Charles died on January 27th, 1942.

8. Frederick W Stock (a twin) was born on March 16th, 1873. He married Minnie Caroline Fogt, who was born October 25th, 1878. They had 4 children, Arthur, Viola, Martin, and Reuben. Frederick died on December 8th, 1957 and Minnie died on 27 October 27th, 1965.

9. William Stock (a twin) was born on March 16th, 1873. He married Mathilda Menke who was born on October 12th, 1871. They had 5 children, Walter, Alfred, Edwin, Willis, and Doris. William died on September 10th, 1954 and Mathilda died on October 12th, 1959.

10. Martha Stock was born on May 5th, 1875. She married Henry Frederick Pausch, who was born on April 8th, 1867. They had one child named Harvey. Martha died on October 2nd, 1948, and Henry died on June 3rd, 1959.

11. Sarah Stock was born on January 15th, 1877. She did not marry. Sarah died on April 17th, 1905.

12. Charles Henry Stock was born on April 16th, 1879. He married Mary Louise Edhe, who was born on February 3rd, 1885. They had 4 children, Dorothy, Evangeline, Aurelia, and Ceylon. Charles died on October 15th, 1959 and Mary died May 25th, 1979.

13. Edward Charles Stock was born on July 27th, 1881. He married Wilhelmina Fiet, who was born on July 5th, 1886. They had 4 children, Gertrude, an infant that lived only a week, Leonard, and Robert. Edward died on April 21st, 1967 and Wilhelmina died on January 8th, 1975.

14. Lydia Stock was born on August 7th, 1884. She married Fred William Adam who was born on September 16th, 1877. They had 3 children, Ada, Alfred, and Willard. Lydia died on June 28th, and Fred died on August 20th, 1960.
