Unverified notes, added by S. Ferrall:
The photo is undated. Perhaps a family gathering at the time of the elder Hagen's death or another occasion. Note the foliage draped items on front porch. Gulbrand is absent from the photo, but his wife and 10 children appear to be present, with probable grandchildren in the wagon on the left. The adults are dressed in black. Noting the lack of leaves on the tree, the season is either fall or early spring. Gulbrand Hagen died in November 1883. Also, the 1913 biography of Peter Hagen states: "...in 1883 a modern stone dwelling was erected." The house in this photo appears to be made of stone.

Gulbrand H. Hagen was born 10/22/1827 and died 11/23/1883. He married Agnet Kaldor and they immigrated to U.S. in 1854. She was born 8/14/1830 and died 12/1/1887.

Their children:

Martha married Torkel Leikvold on July 8, 1876.

Peter, married Ellen Paulson.

Christina married Otto Sorenson on November 26, 1891.

Hannah married John A. Fossom in 1878/1879.

Halvor G. married Lizzie Bredock on October 28, 1885.

Nicholene 'Lena' married Lou A. Wellman on February 12, 1884.

Edward G. married Mary Salverson. Served in U.S. Army, Troop F., 4th U.S. Cavalry engaged in the western frontier defense, then re-enlisted and served in the Philippine War. Biography * Obituary

Otto F. married Minnie Johnson on December 16, 1896.

Albert G. married Karen Leyse. He served in Co. I, 49th IA Vol., Sp-Am War. Biography

Melvin, married first to Marguerite Bannerman on July 22, 1911, 2nd to Lydia Dai on July 30, 1942
