-Mrs. Agnes Mullarkey won the $10 gift certificate at RK's Gift & Apparel in a recent drawing. Children's prizes were won by Sarah Wagner, Sara Luster and Sandy Noe.
-Mark Rethwisch and his brother Tom are employed this summer with Carlson Construction Co. near Carroll, Iowa. When they complete the paving job at Carroll, they will head for Nebraska with the crew.
-Mrs. George (Margaret) Bishop entered the Winneshiek County Memorial Hospital in Decorah on Sunday. She was scheduled to undergo surgery the next day.
-Duane Peters and his father­in-law, Lloyd Wintrick, had a good catch of fish on the Mississippi recently. Other successful anglers were Ronald Rosenberg and Joe Johnson.
-Jim Wellendorf spent several hours on Saturday helping his brother Dan build a new home in La Crescent, Minnesota.
-Mrs. Marie Murphy returned Friday from La Crosse, where she had spent several days with her grandson, 18 year old Duane Wood, who is recovering at the Lutheran Hospital from serious injuries he received in a car accident on July 3.
-Mr. and Mrs. Charles J. Fritz and daughter Malia arrived from Norfolk, Va., Friday, to spend their vacation with Edna Gibbs and Mr. and Mrs. Herbert Fritz.
-Mr. and Mrs. Clare Scheid and son William of Berwyn, Ill. came to spend their vacation at the home of Mrs. Mary Lechtenberg.
-Mr. Gerald Mooney, who had been a patient at the La Crosse Lutheran Hospital since mid March, returned to his home on Bench St. a couple of weeks ago. Friends will be glad to know he has been improving the past couple of weeks.
 -Mrs. Gertrude Gavin visited a few days recently at the Lansing homes of Mrs. Frances Wellendorf, Mrs. James Powers and Mrs. Ellen Hanley. She made the trip from Los Angeles, Calif. and back home again by plane. She flew alone, making this trip at the age of 85.
-Bud Rethwisch is helping out at Kehr-Bartels this summer.
-Mrs. Norbert Spinner hosted her bridge club Tuesday evening at her Lansing home. Mrs. Mercedes Burke won high honors at contract, with Mrs. Frances Wellendorf getting second high score.

NEW ALBIN NEWS
-Mr. and Mrs. Edmund Imhoff of Corpus Christi, Texas, arrived here for a 10 day visit with Mr. Imhoff's sister and husband, Mr. and Mrs. Wilbur Mark. While here they also visited with other relatives and friends. Another brother of Mrs. Mark's, Mr. and Mrs. Vincent Imhoff, of Des Moines, Iowa, came for the weekend.
-Mr. and Mrs. Roger Colsch were Saturday evening visitors at the Paul Colsch home in McGregor, Iowa.
-Miss Patty Jacobson, a junior at Luther College in Decorah, has received her grades and has made the Dean's List with an A average for the last semester. She is majoring in elementary education.
-Mrs. Evelyn Plagge, Mrs. Lydia Krueger, Duane Meyer, and Glenda and Don Neuman went to La Crosse on Saturday, July 10, to attend a wedding.
-Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Darling and family went to Caledonia, Minn., on Sunday evening to visit friends.
-Marian Crane and Thomas Darling and daughters drove to Elkader to watch Lansing Kee Hawks defeat Elkader Central in a game played Wednesday, July 7.
-Guests at the Stan Buege home on Sunday were Mr. and Mrs. Bob Buege and family and Mr. and Mrs. Wayne Buege, all of Caledonia, Minn.; and Mr. and Mrs: Bob Blair of Wabasha, Minn.
-Mr. and Mrs. Roland Vonderohe of Hutchinson, Kansas are spending the week with Mr. and Mrs. Albert Vonderohe and Mr. and Mrs. James Valesh.
-During the 4th of July weekend Mrs. Leonard Dee entertained Ralph Brightwell and son of Alden, Iowa.
-Major and Mrs. Claire Brigtain and sons of Montgomery, Alabama, were guests at the Leonard Dee home.
-The Senior Citizens held their recreational meeting on July 9. Thirty-two members and guests were present. Guests included Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Lechtenberg and Mrs. Emma Mader.
-Eight tables of euchre were played. Ladies high went to Doris Gruber and low to Bernice Wild. Mens high went to Alfred Meyer and low to Nick Strub. Paul Meyer received the guest prize.
-The business meeting and potluck supper will be held Friday, July 30, at 6:30.
-Mr. and Mrs. Frank Weymiller attended the Waukon fair Friday afternoon and also visited Mrs. Merrill Henrichs, Mattie Lenz and Esther Tabatt.
-Mr. and Mrs. Neil Berestoff and children were Sunday visitors at the John Cremer home in Hokah, Minn.
-Relatives and friends received word of the birth of another daughter recently to Mr. and Mrs. Ben Rogers of Whitewater, Wisc. Mrs. Rogers is the former Linda Meiners and both are former residents Of New Albin.

HARPERS FERRY NEWS
-The new officers for the Golden Age Club were installed at the meeting on Wednesday, July 7. Officers are: Hazel Theis, pres.; Les steiber, vice pres.; and Norma Easley, sec.-treas.
-Thirty-nine members were present. Birthday honorees were Geraldine Wagner, Verna Marker, Mike Woods, Doc Fields, Helen Dean, Mabel Brazell and Hazel Theis.
-Door prize was won by Emma Benson. High score at cards went to Nick Wagner and the low went to Macel Brazell. Mary Houlihan and Hazel Theis hosted the July gathering. Beulah McLeese and Helen Dean will host the August 3 potluck supper.
-Mr. Sy Schulte of Freeport, Ill. spent the weekend visiting at the home of his mother, Mrs. Lucy Schulte, and other relatives.
-Mr. and Mrs. Bob Boardman, Bobby Jr. and Danny of Madison, Wisconsin visited relatives here Wednesday.
-Mr. Jim Martelle of Janesville, Wis. spent a few days this past week at the home of his mother, Mrs. Lillian Martelle and other relatives.
-Mr. and Mrs. Mark Boardman, Marty and Joni, drove to Dubuque Saturday where they attended the wedding of her niece, Ginny Lou Osthoff. They returned home on Sunday.
-Mr. and Mrs. Leon Cota of Milwaukee, Wis. were recent guests at the home of his parents, the W.L. Cotas.
-Mr. Richard Cassidy of Coral Springs, Fla. arrived Saturday for a few days visit at the home of his sisters, Mrs. Mary Houlihan and Mr. and Mrs. Mel Wiedner, and other relatives and friends.
-Mr. and Mrs. Harold Payne and two children of Binghamton, New York left Saturday after spending the past week at the home of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Ed Delphey. They made the trip by plane.
-Mrs. Lillian Martelle went to Iowa City Thursday where she had a check-up, returning home on Monday.
-Mrs. Mel Traversey, Mrs. Hulda Martelle and Mrs. Lillian Martelle were Prairie du Chien business callers on Wednesday.
-Mrs. Ruth Ann Cordova and Lisa of Waterloo arrived Friday night and her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Urban Hawes, returned home with them after spending the week there. On her return home Sunday evening she was accompanied by Linda Schulte, who will visit for the week.
-Jenny Schulte, Nancy Valley, Laura Luster and Mary Jo Riley of Cedar Rapids spent the weekend with home folks.
-Mrs. Paula Valley, Nancy and Jenny Schulte, were Prairie du Chien callers Saturday afternoon and visited Mrs. Nettie Oakes at the Convalescent Center.
-Mr. and Mrs. Dale Mathis and sons moved last week to their farm which they purchased from Mr. and Mrs. Roy McGeough.
-Mrs. Lonnie Seitz of Cedar Rapids and Bob Kelly of Waterloo were weekend callers at the Joe Kelly home.

WAUKON NEWS
-Mrs. Willian Hull of Winona, Minn., was an overnight visitor on Saturday at the home of her brother, Claude Schafer, and visited her mother, Mrs. Barbara Schafer, at the Good Samaritan home in Waukon.
-Mr. and Mrs. Willard Kerndt of rural Lansing enjoyed a vacation last week, driving out through Kansas, to the Grand Canyon, and as far as Salt Lake City. They reported poor crops in some of the states due to a bad freeze on June 14, which took care of this year's crop.
-Dr. Robert Thompson left for his home on Sunday, having been called her at the time of the death of his father, Oscar Thompson, last week. He lives in Solano Beach, Calif.
-Mr. and Mrs. Garth Pattuloand daughter Kathryn have gone to Tyler, Texas, where they will be associated with a Flowerama business. They have been visiting for several weeks with Mrs. Pattulo's parents, the Dr. John Cox, since their discharge from the Army.
-Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Northey of Charles City became the parents of a baby son of July 9. He will be called Mathew Thomas and weighed eight pounds and eight and one-half ounces. This gives another grandson to Mr. and Mrs. Melvin Reeder and another great­grandchild to Mrs. Martha Bulman.
-Named to the Dean's List at Iowa state University, Ames, for the ,spring quarter were Curt Amundson, son of Mr. and Mrs. Ken Amundson of Lansing, and Tom Houlihan, son of Mr. and Mrs. Jim Houlihan of rural Harpers Ferry.
-Forty-six members of the Swenson Clan met together for a family reunion at the Monona Park, Sunday, July 4. Among those present were Mr. and Mrs. Jack Seitz of Winnipeg, Canada, and Mr. and Mrs. Herbert Hayes of Adel, Iowa. The latter couple visited with his sister, Mrs. Mattie Lenz, at the Good Samaritan Home in Waukon.
-Mr. and Mrs. Hubert Swenson and two sons of West Chicago, Ill., were weekend visitors over the Fourth of July with their parents, Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Swenson of Waukon and Mr. and Mrs. Henry Bakken of Decorah. Mr. Bakken has been a hospital patient recently.
-The congregation of Zalmona Presbyterian Church is having a congregational dinner on Sunday, July 18, honoring their former pastor, Rev. and Mrs. Edwin Hancock, who are in the process of moving to Columbia, Mo.
-Mrs. Helen Gruver and Mrs. Cora Palmer visited Sunday with their brother and wife, Mr. and Mrs. James Henderson, and with the former's sister-in-law, Mrs. Frances Cline, at Clermont. They also called on another sister, Mrs. Ruby Frier, at Hawkeye.
-Mrs. Helen Gruver of Waukon and her sister, Mrs. Rolland Roggensack, of Lancaster, Wis., arrived home on July 4 from a two week trip which took them to Ireland, Scotland, Walesand and England. They arrived in England at the time of the worst drought in 250 years and it was very hot. They enjoyed four days in London visiting many interesting places.
-Mr. and Mrs. Edward Westerman and two children arrived on Saturday to spend a week or more with their parents, Mr. and Mrs. Merton Palmer, and other relatives.
-Mrs. Peggy Vander Berg of Cedar Falls has been a surgical patient at a Rochester, Minn. hospital, with her mother, Mrs. Elmer Kewley, spending much time with her. She will be returning to the home of her parents in Waukon this week for recuperation.
-Merle Schlakes, at Postville, and her mother, Mrs. Leroy Schlake at Garnavillo. The Hansons have three children, the eldest, Rick, is married and lives in Falls Church, Va.; Mark, serving in Air Force at Kessler AFB, Miss.; and Diane, at home. They are leaving this week for their future home at Prescott, Ariz., traveling with trailer. They are taking with them Mrs. Schlake from Garnavillo, who is going to make her home at Phoenix, Ariz. where she has a daughter and a son residing.
-Mrs. Freida Nunnke of Bremen, Germany, arrived on June 30 for a visit with Waukon friends, Mrs. Sophie Rissman and Mr. and Mrs. John Schellhammer. Mrs. Nunnke as a young woman assisted in the German home of the Waukon ladies after they came to the U.S. in the 20's. They have been showing her about in this area and she thinks it is beautiful. The three ladies are going to Omaha, Nebraska, on Friday where they will visit Mrs. Schellhammer's daughter and husband, Mr. and Mrs. Gaylord Riley. From there they will go to Kansas City to visit a brother of the ladies, Mr. and Mrs. William Vieth. The will travel via bus but expect to return to Waukon by car from Kansas City. The visitor returns to Germany on August 3.
-The annual Bulman picnic will be held on Sunday, June 25, at the Waukon Municipal Park.
-Mrs. David LaBonne, Carmen and Scott of Tacoma, Washington, left Tuesday from Milwaukee for their home, having been here about ten days visiting her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Gilbert Eadie, and attending their 40th wedding anniversary open house on Sunday, June 27.
-Relatives from this area attended the wedding of Donna Marie Donlek at River Falls, Wis. on Saturday, June 19, at 11:00 a.m., at St. Bridget's Catholic Church. The groom was Lawrence White and both are third year medical students at the University of Wisconsin at Madison, Wisconsin. The bride is the daughter of Dr. and Mrs. D. W. Donalek (Catherine Tepesch) and spent her early childhood in Waukon when her father practiced medicine here. A dinner was served in the dining room of the school. The couple spent their honeymoon on a canoe trip. Those attending were Mr. and Mrs. Francis Tepesch, Mrs. Stella Laffan and Mrs. Howard Lawson, Waukon; Mr. and Mrs. Irvin Huinker and family of Monona; and Mr. and Mrs. Ed Grady and Marian of rural Harpers Ferry.
-More than 150 relatives and friends were in attendence at the 40th wedding anniversary Open House held at Zion United Church of Christ on Sunday afternoon, June 27, for Mr. and Mrs. Gilbert Eadie. A program was pre­pared by their daughter, Mrs. Ron Fish, who showed many slides of Germany which were taken on a trip which she and her husband and parents enjoyed in April of this year.
-Mrs. Mabel Palmer recently returned from an enjoyable trip which first took her to Salina, Kansas, where she attended the high school graduation of her granddaughter, Paula Jo Palmer, daughter of Dr. and Mrs. Keith Palmer, on May 25. She spent a long weekend with her granddaughter and family, Mr. and Mrs. Edward Westerman, at Ellsworth, Kansas, after which she flew from Wichita, Kansas, to Gresham, Oregon, for a ten­day visit at the home of her brother, Frank Rupp, and family. While there, she spent a day with another niece and family, Mr. and Mrs. Dale Schwager, who showed her the sights of Portland. She returned via air to Rochester, Minn., where she was met by her daughter-in-law, Mrs. Merton Palmer.
-Mrs. Ray Kohler and Mr. and Mrs. Jerry Lucywho of Milwaukee, Wis. and Mr. and Mrs. Ira Moody of McGregor and Don Maloney of Waukon were dinner visitors at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Campbell on July 5.
-Roger Campbell of Woodrover, Nebraska spent the holiday weekend with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Campbell, and sister and family, Mr. and Mrs. Gordon Gilbertson of rural Waterville. Roger and his wife train and show horses for horse shows and rodeos. His wife was busy over the Fourth of July riding in a rodeo.
-Friends of Mrs. Harry Schultz of Postville, the former Hazel Kiesau, will be sorry to learn that she is hospitalized at the Decorah hospital following a stroke and is receiving therapy
-Mr. and Mrs. Neil Kiesau and family have sold their home in Lansing and are now residing in the upstairs apartment of his parents, the Calvin Kiesaus, in Waukon. The former family are planning to build a new home in the country about nine miles north of Waukon on highway 9.
-Mr. and Mrs. Roger Kiesau and children of Cedar Rapids were Fourth of July weekend visitors with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Calvin Kiesau.
-Waukon Fire Dept. responded to a call at l:15 a.m. on Tuesday morning of last week at the Gordon Hansmeier farm two miles south of Waukon on No. 76, where a large barn and shed were burning. A number of calves and a bull were removed from the lower part of the barn, the upper part and shed being filled with freshly chopped hay which burned for several days. The loss was partially covered by insurance. The cause was thought to have been spontaneous combustion.
-William Barthell and daughter Liz of Oklahoma Cty, Oklahoma spent last week in this area visiting his mother, Mrs. Shirley Barthell, at Waukon and his sister, Mr. and Mrs. George Ferring, of rural Lansing.
-Mrs. James Thomson and Mrs. Harriet Letchford are spending five days this weekend attending the National Women's Presbyterial meeting at Purdue University. They left on Wednesday riding with Mrs. Grace Mae who will be visiting at the home of her daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Clikeman and family, at West Lafayette, Indiana. The latter family has just returned from a three week trip to Europe.
-CM/Sgt. (retired) Bob Hanson and wife, the former Carol Schlake and daughter Diane, visited relatives in this area last week and this. Bob retired June 30 from the Air Force after 23 years of service, having been stationed of late at Offutt AFB, Omaha, Nebr. He has served in numerous states and foreign countries, including England, Spain, and Vietnam. While in Waukon they visited his sister and husband, Mr. and Mrs. Ollie Snitker, the Joe Jenkins family, and Mrs. Hanson's brother and family.
-Mr. and Mrs. Carl R. Christianson and Mark were visitors in Mason City a couple of days last week at the home of her sister and family, Mr. and Mrs. Tom Counters.

WILLARD KIESAU HONORED UPON RETIREMENT
Willard C. Kiesau was honored on Tuesday evening. June 29. for having completed 31 years of employment and service with the standard Oil Company, he having retired as of July 1. About 60 employees of the Company, including district personnel, dealers, agents, jobbers and wives attended a dinner at the Cliff House that evening recognizing Mr. Kiesau and his wife. He was given a mantel clock by the Company in recognition of 30,years service. Kiesau was Territory Manager of five counties. Allamakee, Winneshiek, Clayton, Fayette and Howard, having lived at one time in Clear Lake, then returning to Waukon. Prior to his employment with Standard Oil, he was employed at Waukon State Bank. When asked his future plans, Kiesau says he plans to do a little fishing, a little golfing and just rest a bit.
 
COAST TO COAST STORE CHANGES HANDS
Harold McShane has sold his Coast to Coast Store in Waukon to Allan Quandahl. McShane started in the store as a Partner of Chalmer Bray in 1950. About ten years ago, he purchased the Bray portion of the business from Mrs. Bray, following her husband's death. The store has been expanded in size within the past two years. There will be no changes in personnel, with McShane helping some for the rest of the year.

ON LUTHER COLLEGE HONOR ROLL
Among the students named to Luther College Dean's List for the second semester are Richard Bloxham, Mark Evans, Mary Felton, Thomas Halverson, Allene Leathers, Janet Leathers, Ann Moe and Lynn Odegard, all of Waukon; Patricia Jacobson of New Albin; and Jean Weymiller of Harpers Ferry. These students have achieved a semester grade point average of 3.50 or better on a 4.0 scale. Each student must have earned at least 11 credit hours and at least 10 credit hours of conventional grades (A, B, C, D). Students may have no more than one credit hour of incomplete and may have no grade of "no credit".
