SKADSEM - POHLMAN	Miss Evelyn Pohlman, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ben Pohlman of New Albin, Iowa, was married to Reuben Skadsem, son of Mr. and Mrs. Melvin Skadsem of Spring Grove, Minn., at the Little Brown Church at Nashua, Iowa, on Sept. 5th at three o’clock. The Rev. Hanson performed the marriage ceremony. The processional march was the “Bridal Chorus” from Lohengrin, by Wagner, and during the ceremony the organist played, “I Love You Truly” and “O Promise Me.” “The Little Brown Church in the Vale” was played as the recessional. The bride wore a dress of traditional white bridal satin, fashioned with princess bodice. Her floor length skirt was made with a long, train and her fingertip veil of illusion tulle and lace was held in place by a crystal bead tiara. She wore a double strand of pearls with earrings to match, which were a gift of the groom. The bride carried a bouquet of asters, gladiolus and ferns tied with a white ribbon. Attending the couple were Miss Delores Heitman, maid of honor, and the Misses Edna Olafson and Gladys Heitman, bridesmaids. Edwin Morken and Roy Wiemerslage were best men. Little Eunice Diersen, niece of the bride, was flower girl, and Terry Blaine Skadsmen, brother of the groom, the ring bearer. After the ceremony a dinner was served at the home of the bride’s parents for the bridal party. In the evening a wedding dance was held in their honor at the municipal auditorium in Caledonia. The bride is a graduate of the Caledonia high school and has attended Winona and La Crosse State Teachers’ colleges. She has taught at Houston and near New Albin, and is now teaching at Byron, Minn. The groom is a graduate of Spring Grove high school and Dunwoody Institute of Minneapolis. He was an instructor or layout man in sheet metal work at Winslow Ship Yards, Seattle, Wash., and is now employed at the Rochester Body and Fender Works. Pre-nuptial showers were given by Mrs. Melvin Skadsem and the Misses Gladys and Dolores Heitman. SLAUGHTER - HAGER	A pretty wedding took place at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Otto Hager on Tuesday, June 18, at 3:00 o'clock in the afternoon, when their youngest daughter, Betty, was united in marriage with James Slaughter of McGregor. Rev. Wilton Sinning, former minister of the Community church here, performed the ceremony in the presence of the immediate members of the two contracting families, after which a wedding supper was served. The couple will live in McGregor where the bridegroom is employed. --- Miss Betty Hager, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Otto Hager of Postville, became the bride of Jimmy L. Slaughter, son of Mr. and Mrs. J. Slaughter of McGregor, on Tuesday of last week. The ceremony was performed in the home of the bride's parents at three o'clock in the afternoon. Attending the couple were Miss Bernice Hager, sister of the bride, and Alto Dahlstrom. A wedding dinner was served at the Hager home after the ceremony to 100 relatives and friends, and in the evening a reception was held for the couple. A wedding shower and dance is also being planned for the couple at the White Springs ballroom near McGregor for the evening of July 10. The bridegroom was recently discharged from the army after more than 3½ years in service in the South Pacific. SLIFER - BAGLEY	A double wedding took place at Waukon, Iowa, on Saturday December 3, 1938, when Bernice Margaret Roeber, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. L.F. (Selma Haar) Roeber of Osseo, Wisconsin, became the bride of Richard Ernest Bagley of, son of Mr. and Mrs. Ernest (Hazel) Bagley of Osseo, Wisconsin, and Arvilla Mae Bagley, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ernest (Hazel) Bagley of Osseo, Wisconsin, became the bride of Virgil Slifer of Eau Claire, Wisconsin. Rev. Gordon Smith officiated. Following the ceremony, a wedding dinner was given at the home of Mrs. Bagley's grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. August (Amanda Kruger) Haar of Eitzen, Minnesota. Mrs. Bagley, formerly of Tulare, South Dakota, was graduated from Redfield high school in 1936. SLINDEE - PFIFFNER	Lansing- The marriage of Miss Alice Pfiffner, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Edmund Pfiffner, and Carl Slindee, a son of Mrs. Ida Slindee, all of Lansing, was held at the Immaculate Conception rectory Monday morning, with the Rev. Henry Scharphoff officiating. SMITH - DRESSER	At the Community church parsonage in this city at three o'clock on Wednesday afternoon last, October 11, Ira E. Smith , the well known Post township farmer, and Mrs. Maria Dresser of this city, were joined in the holy bonds of matrimony by Rev. R. F. Galloway, the ceremony being performed in the presence of the members of the immediate families concerned. Following the ceremony Mr. and Mrs. Smith left on a short honeymoon trip by auto, visiting Dubuque and Manchester. Both the parties to this affair are too well and favorably known to need any elaborate remarks at our hands other than the fact that there are no finer people on earth. They will make their home in Postville, where the Herald joins their numerous friends in extending its kindliest well wishes for a long and happy journey on the matrimonial sea. ~Postville Herald, Thursday, October 19, 1933 -contributor: Reid R. SMITH - POWELL	Married. At the residence of C.M. Powell on Wednesday occurred the marriage of Ira M. Smith and Miss Marion M. Powell, Rev. Vannice performing the ceremony. Mr. Smith is among the prosperous young farmers of Franklin township, enjoying the confidence of the neighborhood that has been his home since childhood. His bride is the youngest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. D.G. SMITH - ROFFMAN	Waukon, Ia., -- Special: Miss Marie Roffman and Carl Smith, both of Franklin township, were married in Waukon Tuesday. The ceremony was performed by the Rev. R. L. Van Nice at his home. The young couple was unattended. The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. William Roffman, farmers of Franklin township. She received her education in the rural schools. SMITH - SWENSON	At high noon, on Thursday, March 30, 1911, at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Seward Swenson in Franklin township, occurred the marriage of their daughter, Miss Carrie, to Mr. Leighton E. Smith, son of Mr. and Mrs. C. P. Smith of Post township, Rev. Jones of Luana officiating. The contracting parties are well known and highly respected young people and a host of admiring friends will extend them their heartiest well wishes. The bride is the eldest daughter of Mr. Henry Webb. SNITKER - BLOXHAM	Waukon – Marriage vows sere repeated Saturday during a ceremony at the First Presbyterian church by Miss Sheryl Sue Bloxham and Robert John Snitker. The two o’clock ceremony was performed by the Rev. William Tjaden. The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. James Bloxham and Mr. Snitker is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence Snitker, all of Waukon. Attending the bride as maid of honor was Donna Mohn, Jane Murphy and Kathy Snitker, sister of the bridegroom, were bridesmaids. Renee Thuine was personal attendant. Randy Bloxham, brother of the bride, was best man and Burdell Schulze and Randy Snitker seated guests. A gown of organza with taffeta underlay was chosen by the bride. It was styled with a high neckline, fitted bodice and bishop sleeves with Alencon lace trim. Her chapel – length veil was held by a Camelot cap and her bouquet was a cascade of red roses with white carnations. The bride’s attendants wore empire gowns of polyester; crepe in shades of blue designed with round necklines and long sleeves. White picture hats completed their ensembles and each carried a single mum. Following the ceremony a reception for 250 guest was given at the church. The couple will reside in Waukon on return from a brief wedding trip. The bride a senior student at Waukon high school, is employed by Farmers and Merchants Savings bank. SNITKER - FLAGE	Mr. and Mrs. Raymond Snitker of Ludlow were feted Friday evening in the opera house at a wedding shower and dance, and the popular couple received a number of beautiful gifts for their new home, the Clara Kugel farm which they have rented. The newlyweds were married Wednesday afternoon in the Zalmona church in Ludlow with the Rev. Bushman officiating. SOMMER - LOPE	A wedding took place at Lansing, Iowa, when Mr. Nicholas J. Sommer, of La Crosse, was wedded to Miss Eleanor Lope, of Lansing. SORENSON - ANDERSON	Waukon, Ia - The West Synod church of near Elon, this county, will be the scene of a pretty wedding Oct. 17 when Miss Alma Anderson becomes the bride of Selmer Sorenson of Waterville. The Rev. J.B. Unseth will perform the ceremony. Attendants will be Judith Anderson, Mildred Gunderson, Orville Gunderson and Melvin Anderson. The wedding march will be played by Mrs. George Sorenson and during the service Mrs. Olvin Sorenson will sing. Misses Coyla Sorum and Evelyn Sorenson will be the flower girls. SORENSON - JACOBSON	On Friday evening, May 25, a reception was held at the George Sorenson home in honor of Mr. and Mrs. George Sorenson, whose marriage occurred on Thursday, May 24. Sorenson home last Friday night in honor of the newlyweds, Mr. Sorenson and his bride, Miss Ruth Jacobson, who plighted their troth the day before. SORUM - ENGEN	Waukon, Ia. - A pretty wedding was celebrated Monday evening in the Old West Paint Creek church when Miss Loretta Mae Engen became the bride of Andrew Sorum. The double ring ceremony was performed by the Rev. E.O. Baalsom, pastor, and Miss Cynthia Hanson sang "O, Perfect Love", and "I Love You Truly". The bride chose traditional white satin for her wedding gown and wore a finger-tip length veil. Her attendants, Miss Christine Sorumand Miss Hellen Aure, were attired in pink and blue gowns. Attending the bridegroom were Gordon Engen and Melbourne Evenson. The bride is a daughter of Mrs. Selmer Engen of Makee township and is a graduate of the Waukon high school. Before her marriage she taught in a rural school. SPIEGLER - BRESNAHAN	Miss Evelyn Bresnahan, daughter of Mrs. John Bresnahan of Hanover, and Mr. Frank Spiegler, son of Mr. and Mrs. Will Spiegler of Eitzen, Minn., were united in marriage Wednesday, July 31, in Hanover, Rev. Father Reynolds officiating. Clem Bresnahan, brother of the bride, acted as best man and Laurayne Bresnahan, cousin of the bride, acted as bridesmaid. The young couple left that same day on a honeymoon trip to St. Paul, Minn., and will visit the Dells of Wisconsin and other points. SPIEGLER - SIRES	A very quiet wedding took place at the Mt. Hope church on Thursday evening when Rev. Sutherland pronounced the mystic words that joined together two of our most worthy young people, Mr. Wm. Spieghler and Miss Minnie Sires. The bride is a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John Sires, a handsome young lady, an accomplished musician and a fine singer. The groom is the oldest son of Mr. and Mrs. Barney Spieghler, a young man of excellent character, honest and upright in all his dealings and what can't be said of every young man, never touches the fatal cup. After a short wedding tour they will settle down to house keeping in our midst. SPRAGUE - BECKING	At 8 o’clock, January 16th, at Caledonia, Minn., took place the marriage of Gertrude Ann, youngest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J. W. Becking of Lansing, and Mr. Frederick Sprague of Wilkesbarre, Pa. The bride was attired in French blue chiffon with hat and pumps to match, while the groom wore conventional black. After the ceremony the bridal party, accompanied by friends, repaired to the hotel where they partook of a sumptuous dinner. The bride is a charming and accomplished young lady, a graduate of the Immaculate Conception School of Lansing, and up to the present has a clerical position at Grandview hospital, La Crosse. The groom is an industrious young man and well fitted to make happy the bride of his choice. A host of friends join in wishing the young couple bon voyage on their journey through life. SPURGEON - SCHMIDT	Postville, Ia., Jan 8 - Word has been received here of the marriage of Miss Joyce G. Schmidt and George W. Spurgeon, on Dec. 28, at the Presbyterian parsonage in Galva, Ia., by the Rev. Adkins. The bride is a daughter of Dr. and Mrs. A.A. Schmidt of Postville, and the bridegroom is a son of Mr. and Mrs. George R. Spurgeon of Galva. Both are graduates of the State University of Iowa City. Mrs. Joyce Spurgeon graduated from the college of medicine in 1929 and as Dr. J.G. STAGGEMEIER - WENIG	Waukon – St. John’s Methodist church at Dorchester was the setting Sunday evening for the marriage of Miss Evelyn Wenig, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Truman Wenig, and Milton Staggemeier, son of the Louis Staggemeiers. The Rev. Raymond Orr of Waukon officiated at the 7 p.m. ceremony, Mrs. Leon Schoh, organist, accompanied Betty Thiele, vocalist. The bride was attended by Donna Lou Wenig, maid of honor, Janice Meyer, bridesmaid, and Sandra Rink, flower girl. Norbert Staggemeier, was best man. Donald Choh ushered. STAHL - MIDDENDORF	Lansing, Iowa-The Rev. John E. Creps officiated at the marriage of Jean Ann Middendorf and Everett Stahl Friday, February 18, using the double-ring service. Donna Middendorf attended her sister and George Yeoman was best man. Parents of the couple are Mr. and Mrs. Frank Middendorf and Mr. and Mrs. Richard Stahl. STEIBER - MAUST	Lansing, Ia. - The marriage of Miss Marjorie Jean Maust and Frederick Steiber took place at the Evangelical United Brethren church Saturday afternoon. The Rev. E.R. Walter and Rev. D.R. Corrick officiated at the marriage ceremony. Wedding music was played by Mrs. C.V.Shofield with the Misses Ruth Walters and Elinor Englehorn as soloists. The Misses Donna Maust, sister of the bride, Bernice Steiber, Elinor Englehorn, Bernard Steiber, brother of the bridegroom, Robert Maust, Jr. and David Kerkow were the attendants. Judy Dee was flower girl and Denny Groves was ring bearer, and Ruth Englehorn and Colleen Mathis were train bearers. An evening reception with 135 guests was held at the city hall. The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Maust and is a graduate of the Lansing High School and taught in the rural schools the past year. The bridegroom is a son of Mr.and Mrs. Fred Steiber and is a graduate of the Waterville High School and is associated in farming with his father. STEIBER - WENDEL	At the Calvary Evangelical church in this city, yesterday morning, at 10 o’clock, Rev. L. T. Olson officiating, occurred the marriage of Miss Lillian Wendel, only daughter of Mr. J. W. Wendel of Church, and Raymond Steiber, of Lafayette township. The bridal couple entered the auditorium of the church by different doors and marched up the aisles, meeting at the chancel rail to the strains of Mendelssohn’s wedding march played by Leon Bechtel. The were preceded by Little Miss Helen Steiber, sister of the groom, who acted as flower girl and was clad in rose colored rayon. The bride was attired in an orchid georgette gown, with had and slippers to match. The bridesmaid, Miss Colene Wendel, cousin of the bride, wore a pink georgette dress, with hat and slippers to match. The bride and her maid carried bouquets of pink roses and sweet peas, respectively. The groom and best man, Mr. Harry Wendel, cousin of the bride, were attired in suits of blue. Before the ceremony, Miss Adah Bauman sang very beautifully “Perfect Day,” with Leon Bechtel at the piano. After the ceremony the happy couple repaired to the lecture room for congratulations, while Mr. Bechtel rendered the "Bridal Chorus,” by Wagner. A wedding dinner was served to the bridal party, immediate relatives and a number of friends at the home of the bride’s father, near Church. Mr. and Mrs. Steiber, who are among the best known young people of their respective localities, forego a honeymoon trip, owing to the busy season on the farm, and settle down at once on the home place in Lafayette while a new house is being built for them on a farm given the groom by his father. STONE - LANE	The marriage of Walter Stone and Miss Lillian Lane, both of this city, took place Tuesday of last week at St. Patrick’s church at 6 a.m., the pastor, Rev. Father Stuart, officiating and celebrating nuptial mass. The attendants were Miss Esther Lane, sister of the bride, and Earl Anderson. The newlyweds are two of Waukon’s most estimable young people. The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Lane. She is a graduate of the Waukon High School and for some time has held the position of bookkeeper in J. D. Cowan’s business. The groom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. L. J. Stone. He is also a graduate of Waukon High School and has been for a number of years a trusted employee in Peterson Bros. hardware store. Following the ceremony a wedding breakfast was served at the home of the bride’s parents to the bridal party and immediate relatives, after which they departed on a honeymoon trip to Madison and Milwaukee, Wis., Gary, Ind., Chicago and Rock Island, Ill., where they visited relatives and friends. On their return they will settle down to married life in an apartment over the H. & H. Henry Charipar perfonned the 1 :30 p.m. ceremony. Velma Mack of New Albin and Francis and Kathryn Stortz of Waukon are the couple's parents. Mass servers were Luke Fink, nephew of the bride, and Jim Mauss, and lectors were Richard and Louise Risk, brother-in-law and sister of the groom. John and Coni Leonard, brother-in-law and sister of the groom, were offertory gift carriers. Music was provided by Shirley Richards, organist, and vocalists, Sheila Colsch, Sherry Mellick, sisters of the bride, and Shelly Galema, niece of the bride. Selections included "On Eagle's Wings," "Today," "The Sweetest Thing," "A Love Until The End Of Time," "Trumpet Voluntary," "Bridal Chorus," "Vows Go Unbroken," "God, A Woman And A Man," "To Me," "Wedding Prayer," "Walk Hand In Hand," and "Follow You, Follow Me." Escorted to the altar by her brother, Mike Fink, the bride wore a white satin gown featuring a Mandarin collar highlighted with imported crystal beads. The fitted bodice was fashioned with fitted sleeves accented with crystal and pearl trim. The bouffant skirt with cathedral length train was detailed with lace inlays. The fingertip silk illusion veil was attached to a wreath of satin flowers with seed pearl and crystal accents. She carried an arrangement of burgundy lilies, white dai­sies and pink dogwood, trimmed with lily-of-the-valley, ivy, beads, and black and pink ribbon. The bride's twin sister, Diane Feuerhelm, was matron of honor, and attendants were Sally Fink; sister-in-law of the bride, Lori Fink, niece of the bride, and Vicki Snodgrass, all of New Albin; Kris Carroll of LaVista, NE, and Angie Stortz of Waukon, sister of the groom. Each wore a tea length dress of burgundy satin with lace overlay styled with soft gathered elbow length sleeves. A large bow accented the v-shaped low back. Each carried a black fan with burgundy tiger lilies, white daisies, pink dogwood, baby's breath, beads and a black bow. Jennifer Ellingson of Spring Grove, MN, was the bride's personal attendant. Best man was Ben Ludeking of Sioux City, and groomsmen were Rick Winke of Waukon, Scott Kiesau of Glendale, AZ, Jeff Burke of Decorah, brother-in-law of the groom, Tom Feuerhelm of New Albin, brother-in-law of the bride, and Jason Beisker of Stillwater, MN, nephew of the groom. Wedding guests were seated by usherettes Chris and Shelly Stortz, both of Chicago, IL, Mary Burke of Decorah, and Jenny Stortz of Waukon, all sisters of the groom. Each was attired in a black skirt and waistcoat with black cummerbund and bow tie. The bride's mother chose a mocha street length dress with match­ing accessories, and the mother of the groom wore a rose-colored street length dress with white accessories. Burgundy, black and pink streamers and balloons decorated the Waukon Opera House for the 4 p.m. reception. Hosts were Joe and Donna Fink, brother and sister-in-law of the bride, and Butch and Becky Johnson, brother-in-law and sister ofthe groom. Brooke Feuerhelm, Molly Fink and Alexie Feuerhelm, nieces of the bride, were in charge of the gifts. Guests were registered by Beth Galema and Janice Mellick, nieces of the bride. Punch was served by the bride's niece, Melissa Feuerhelm, and coffee pourers were Mary Fink, sister-in-law of the bride, and Lorna Schulte, aunt of the groom. The wedding cake was cut by the bride's sister-in-Iaw, Bernice Fink, and the groom's aunt, Jane Schulte. Waitresses were Sarah Sires, Erin and Mary Donahue, Megan Gilman and Julie Mauss. Sally Fink and Diane Allison, sisters-in-law of the bride and groom, were in charge of pinning flowers. The bride is a graduate of Kee High School and Winona Technical Institute and is currently employed by Gundersen Medical Foundation in La Crosse, WI. The groom graduated from Waukon Senior High and is engaged in farming. After a wedding trip to Door County, WI, they are making their home in rural Waukon. Reverend Gerald Condon officiated with Reverend Robert Levenhagen concelebrating the mass. Pink carnations and white mums decorated the altar. Jeff and Kerry Troendle, nephews of the bride, served as altar boys. The bride's dress was of ivory quiana in an A-line fashion with an empire waistline. A rounded neck yoke of ivory chiffon accented the bodice with the train falling from the rounded back yoke and shoulders. Ivory floral trim decorated with pearl beading accented the dress collar, yoke, waistline, and long straight sleeves. Her veil was of ivory illusion falling from a camelot headpiece. Her bouquet was of red, pink, and light pink roses, white stephanotas and white carnations. She wore a diamond neck­lace, a gift of the groom. Ms. Margaret McGeough, New Hampton, a friend of the bride, served as the maid of honor. She wore a pistachio green quiana A-line halter dress with lettuce edged cape and hem. Mrs. Dan Meehan and Mrs. Rich Meehan, both sisters-in-law of the bride, served as bridesmaids. Their dresses were the same as the maid of honor. The bride designed and made their dresses also. They carried colonial bouquets of pink roses and white carnations. Mrs. William Brendel, sister of the bride, served as her personal attendant. Mrs. Jerry Troendle. sister of the bride. and Mrs. Curt Duwe, sister of the groom, were in charge of the flowers. Lee Strub, brother of the groom, was the best man. Rich Meehan, brother of the bride, and Curt Duwe, brother-in-law of the groom, were the groomsmen. Bill Brendel, brother­in-law of the bride, and Colin Strub, brother of the groom, were the ushers. Mr. Jerry Troendle and Dan Meehan, brother-in-law and brother of the bride. were lectors. The bride's mother wore a blue polyester A-line dress fashioned with a V-neckline and chiffon sleeves. The groom's mother wore a sleeveless pink print polyester dress, A-line fashion, with a button neckline. Their flowers were white carnations with red and pink roses. Ms. Jan Zenk and Ms. Lynne Guenther, college friends of the bride, were the organist and soloist, respectively. A reception was held at the Vet's Club in Waukon following the ceremony. The bride is the only daughter of Mr. and Mrs. George Gonyier of Lansing and the groom a son of Mr. and Mrs. Earl Swayne of Moline. On Saturday evening a reception and shower was tendered the happy couple at the home of the bride’s parents. Out of town guests present for this occasion were his parents and son Earl Henry and Mr. and Mrs. Phil Bergrapf, of Chicago, who motored here Saturday morning. SWEENEY - STOCK	Bouquets of roses, daisies and mums in colors of pink, yellow and blue decorated the altar of St. Mary's Catholic church, Lycurgus, for the 1 p.m. Saturday, June 12 wedding of Kristine A. Stock and Joseph R. Sweeney, both of Waukon. The Rev. Linus Rasing of New Albin officiated at the service. Jim Sweeney of Bellmont, WI, brother of the groom, was lector. Mr. and Mrs. Neil E. Becker and Mr. and Mrs. Ray E. Sweeney, all of Waukon, are parents of the couple. Mrs. Don Haler of Waukon was soloist with Mrs. Frank Regan of Lansing organist. Mrs. Haler also accompanied herself on a guitar for some of the selections, which were More, Wedding Song, Sing of Mary and Follow Me. The bride was given in marriage by her stepfather, Neil Becker, and wore a floor-length white gown featuring a high neckline, empire waistline, long sleeves, edged with lace at the wrists, and bodice trimmed with old-fashioned lace and pearl buttons. The tiered skirt was accented with layers of old­fashioned lace and extended into a cathedral-length train. Her Juliet cap headpiece of Venise lace also had daisy lace threaded with narrow satin ribbon trimming the elbow-length veil of nylon illusion. She wore a necklace belonging to her mother and carried a princess bouquet of pink, yellow and blue miniature roses, daisies and mums with baby's breath. Mrs. Terry Lubahn of Waukon, sister of the bride, was matron of honor with bridesmatron and bridesmaids as Mrs. Dave Urell of Newhall, sister of the bride, and Julie and Joan Sweeney of Waukon, sisters of the groom. They wore white floor-length dresses accented with pink, blue and yellow flowers with scoop necklines and long sleeves. They carried bouquets styled identical to that carried by the bride, only smaller in size, and wore white picture hats as headpieces. Mrs. Randy Bernatz of Waukon was the bride's personal attendant. Jeff Sweeney of Waukon, brother of the groom, was best man and groomsmen were Jake, Jerry and Jan Sweeney of Waukon, all brothers of the groom. Terry Lubahn, brother-in-law of the bride, and John Regan Jr., both of Waukon, seated the guests. Tracy Marie Urell of Newhall, niece of the bride, was flower girl wearing a long pink dress with short puffed sleeves and sheer pink overlay. The dress featured two ruffles at the hemline and she carried a basket filled with pink, yellow and blue daisies, miniature roses and mums. Timmy Becker of Waukon, stepbrother of the bride, was ring bearer. Mrs. Becker chose a long light green dress with white mums and pink roses as her corsage. Mrs. Sweeney wore a floor-length coral colored dress and also had white mums and pink roses as her corsage. A reception followed the ceremony at Waukon opera house with pink, blue, yellow and white streamers and white wedding bells serving as decorations. Mr. and Mrs. Virgil D. Smith of West Union, aunt and uncle of the bride, and Mr. and Mrs. Steve Johanningmeier of rural Monona, sister and brother-in-law of the groom, were hosts. Mrs. Mike Petty of Waterloo presided at the guest book and Mrs. Paul "Butch" Waldron of Waukon served punch. Lori Bresnahan and Kim and Lori Becker, cousins of the bride, carried gifts. Mrs. Donald Dee and Mrs. Gladwin Anderson cut the wedding cake and Mrs. Richard Binder and Mrs. Earl Griffin poured coffee. Vicky, Sherry and Wendy Dee, Lisa and Leslie Smith, Carol Rose, Kari and Kris Kerndt and Linda Berger assisted with serving. Mrs. William Stock was in charge of flowers. The bride is a graduate of Waukon Senior high and is employed at Waukon Veterans Memorial hospital. The groom is a graduate of St. Patrick's high school, Waukon, and is employed at Village Farm and Home. Following a week's trip to the Black Hills in South Dakota, they will live on rural route one, Dorchester. Out-of-town guests who attended the wedding were from Spring Grove and St. Paul, MN, Bellmont, WI and Waterloo, Monona, West Union, Davenport, Dorchester, Newhall, Waterville and Lansing. The bride was honored with a miscellaneous shower April 28 at the Knights of Columbus hall in Waukon. Hostesses were Mrs. John Regan Sr., Mrs. John Regan Jr., Mrs. Bob Curtin, Mrs. John Hammell, Mrs. Gladwin Anderson and Jane and Julie Sweeney. A coin shower, hosted by Cheryl Waldron and Kate Kirkeby, was given for the bride at the Red Owl cafe May 27. SWENSON - CRAWFORD	On Saturday June 21st a very pretty wedding was solemized at the home of Mr. and Mrs. E.C. Crawford, 4430 Malden St., Chicago, when their daughter, Melba became the bride of Mr. Roland E. Swenson of Chicago, son of Mr. and Mrs. A.W. Swenson of Postville. The bridal party marched to the strains of Lohengrin's wedding march played by Mrs. H.L. Crawford, aunt of the bride, to an improvised alter of flowers and ferns, where the single ring ceremony was performed by the Rev. William Price, pastor of the Ravenswood Christian church, Chicago, in the presence of the immediated families of the bride and groom and a few friends. The bride was attended by her sister, Mrs. E.N. Swinford, maid of honor. The groom was attended by Mr. E.N. Swinford of Chicago. The bride wore a white satin costume and carried a bouquet of white roses and lilies-of-the-valley. The maid of honor wore yellow satin and carried a bouquet of yellow Japanese roses. Immediately following the ceremony a reception was given, after which the bride and groom were entertained at a dance by a group of their friends at "The Dells." Mr. and Mrs. Swenson will make their home in Chicago. SWENSON - MAYNARD	Announcements were received here this week of the marriage of Hall L. Swenson, son of Mrs. Evan Swenson of this city, to Miss Elizabeth Maynard of Elkton, Kentucky, the ceremony being performed on Sunday, October 4. SWENSON - NELSON	Among the several merry matings it has fallen our lot to chronicle in the last few months, no more pleasant occasion of the kind has taken place than the one at the home of Mr. and Mrs. A.D. Nelson, in this city, on Tuesday last, Jan. 6th, where a large party of relatives and immediated friends gathered to witness the joining in wedlock of Miss Othillie Nelson and Mr. John F. Swenson. Promptly at high noon, Miss Stella Paulson began the wedding march, to whose merry strains the happy couple, attended by Harry Swenson and Miss Emma Nelson, brother and sister of the contracting parties, took their places in the parlor, which had been most beautifully decorated with potted plants and flowers, where the Rev. J. Tanner, pastor of the Gunder Norwegian church, in a most impressive ceremony conducted in English, tied the nuptial knot. And after the customary greetings to the happy pair the guests sat down to a most excellent wedding feast. The couple were recipients of many beautiful and useful presents. The bride is the talented daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Andrew D. Nelson, of this city, a most estimable young lady in every way, whose friends are numbered by her acquaintences. The groom is the eldest* son of Mr. and Mrs. Evan Swenson, of Post township, a young man of thrifty and industrious character and most excellent habits, in fact a model young man whom any lady might be proud to call her husband. SWENSON - STARRY	County Auditor L. L. Swenson departed Monday morning of last week on a three weeks’ vacation. At Mount Vernon, Iowa, Wednesday at 10 a.m., at the home of the officiating minister, Rev. James Baily, he was united in marriage with Miss Claretta M. Starry. The bride is a daughter of J. L. Starry, of Olin, Iowa, and has been a teacher in the Postville schools for the past three years. She received her education in Cornell College, the State University and the State Teachers’ College. The groom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. S. O. Swenson of Post township. He is pretty well known in this city, having served a term of two years as Deputy County Recorder and starting his term as county Auditor last January. He is a capable and popular young man. Following their marriage Mr. and Mrs. Swenson departed on an automobile tour through the Black Hills and Yellowstone Park and will be at home in Waukon the latter part of this month.
