Contributors notes: Along with this document, I have a typed note my grandfather wrote years ago. The note indicated that James bought 40 acres for himself and another 40 acres for his mother. On the 1872 Ratcliff plat book and the 1886 Warner & Foote plat book, LaFayette twp. Rose McConnen has 20 acres adjacent to the land James purchased.

1886 Section 30, Lafayette twp. showing James McConnen's 40 acres & Rose McConnen's 20 acres

James McConnen's mother, Rose (Muldane) McConnen, died in 1892 and is buried in Wexford Cemetery. She came to Iowa in 1847. She was a widow and worked as a nursemaid in different homes. In 1865 she kept house for James until he married Mary Cassidy in 1867. After his marriage James built Rose a house and she lived there. In her later years she lived with Mary (Cassidy) McConnen.
