Greenfield Square before the Courthouse was built

This is the earliest photo of the Greenfield square that I have. It was donated to this site by Jules Martino, Photograph Collector and Historian. Following is his email to me.

"A. E. Teague Drugs, Stationary" is on the facade of one of the buildings. I learned he was also the Mayor of Greenfield Iowa around 1884-1885.

I am including a laterally correct scan of the tintype showing the town square and Teague's establishment.

The white facade of Teague's business can be seen just above the central part of the wagon in the foreground.

I was told that the brick building just right of center may still be standing. The image was made in the winter as evidenced by the leafless trees and snow. Probably in the late 1870's early 1880's.

You are welcome to use this scan of Greenfield Iowa on your Adair County Photo Site.

The image currently resides in "The Collection Of Jules Martino Silverton, Oregon"
